Governor Umo Eno Urges Political Appointees to Ensure Proper Distribution of Rice Palliatives

Governor UMO ENO has urged Local Government Transition Chairmen, Ministries of Agriculture, Local Government Affairs and other relevant agencies to ensure timely and transparent distribution of the palliatives provided by the federal and state governments to cushion the current hardship.

Governor ENO made the call in a meeting with Commissioners for Agriculture, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Local Government Transition Chairmen to clarify criteria and expedite action on the palliative distribution.

 

The Governor reaffirmed the receipt of 24,000 25Kg bags of rice from the federal government and the addition of another 24,000 of same 25Kg bags by the Akwa Ibom State Government to make it 48,000 bags.

He said 20 bags will be distributed to each of the recognized villages in the state.

Confirming the readiness to commence distribution of the items by Friday, 26th July, the Governor urged the Chairmen to be on ground in their various local government councils to receive and endeavour to release them to village heads immediately, while charging village heads to ensure fairness in the distribution.

Former Nigerian Military administrator, and Elder statesman Chief BODE GEORGE has charged Nigerians who are seeking to ventilate their grievances through the planned nation-wide protest to be cautious.

The Elder Statesman who stated this in an interview monitored by Inspiration FM News today noted that such protest is the right of citizens in a democratic government.

 While approving of the people’s plan to protest, he complained about what he described as manipulative policies of government.

BODE GEORGE stressed the need for restructuring the national government, adding that the Nigeria’s parliamentarians must, as a matter of responsibility priotise 50% reduction of their allowances.

While the planned protest which is slated for 1st August is underway, Nigerians are called upon to express their grievances with decorum to preserve the dignity of the country.

President BOLA TINUBU is said to reported to in a closed-door meeting with governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House, Abuja.

Although the agenda is not known, speculations are that the meeting could be connected with the planned protests scheduled to take place across the country from 1st August.

 The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General EDWARD BUBA, at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday warned that the military will not allow anarchy to befall Nigeria.

He hinted that organisers of the planned protest intend to replicate the recent protest-turn-anarchy demonstration in the East African country, Kenya, adding that the military has uncovered plots by unscrupulous elements to hijack the protest.

The United states Secret Service director, KIM CHEATLE has resigned after security failures surrounding an assassination attempt on former President DONALD TRUMP.

CHEATLE maintained in her resignation letter that she takes full responsibility for the security lapse as the director Secret Service.

She had faced calls from both Democrats and Republicans to step down after a contentious House committee hearing on Monday about the incident.

In her resignation letter, Miss CHEATLE said she had always put the needs of the agency first and it was with a heavy heart that she made her decision.
