Akwa Ibom State Government Begins Distribution of Palliatives To the Vulnerable

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO, has launched the distribution of rice, targeting the 2,272 gazetted villages across the ten Federal Constituencies of the State, an initiative aimed at alleviating economic hardship.

At the commencement of the distribution process on Friday, Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. OFFIONG OFFOR, assured that the distribution process would be transparent.

The beneficiaries of the products are expected to be residents in the rural areas, persons living with disabilities and special groups, regardless of their status.

The Commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor ENO for his kind gestures towards indigenous Akwa Ibom people and residents.

Meanwhile, as local government areas take delivery of rice and garri palliatives in their respective localities, Akwa Ibom people have heaped praise on Governor UMO ENO for ensuring a transparent process that has enabled them to benefit from the gesture.

 

The development followed the distribution exercise of the palliatives at Nsit Attai and Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Areas.

Performing the distribution at Nsit Atai, the Transition Committee Chairman, Lady EMEM IBANGA, expressed gratitude to the Governor and the federal government for putting smiles on the faces of people.

 

She emphasized that village heads and village council officers have received clear instructions regarding their roles, and the distribution procedure will be transparent.

 

Also at Ibesikpo Asutan, the transition chairman, Mrs. AKON MICHAEL said the process was smoothly carried out with all the 79 villages getting their share and thanked the Governor for displaying compassion to the people.

Senate to Summon CBN, NPA, NNPCL, Dangote and Others Over Economic Sabotage in the Petroleum Sector

The Senate has revealed plans to summon the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Dangote Group, and Minister of State for Petroleum, HEINEKEN LOKPOBIRI among others, for questioning over alleged economic sabotage in the country’s petroleum industry.

 This was disclosed in a media briefing by the Leader of the Senate and Chairman of the Senate ad-hoc committee on “Alleged Economic Sabotage in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry.

The chairman disclosed that the 14-member committee constituted on 23rdJuly would investigate billions of dollars spent on turnaround maintenance of the state-owned refineries in the last decade to address deep-seated challenges confronting the industry.

A public hearing scheduled for September 10 is expected to have the contractors handling the turnaround maintenance for the refineries in attendance as the ad-hoc committee prepares to visit Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Warri to engage with key actors in the petroleum industry.

The committee says there would be no room for sacred cows and it is ready to issue a warrant of arrest to any head of the agency that refuses to honor the invitation for appearance.

DSS Warns Intending Protesters Against Violence Ahead of Planned 10 Days of Rage

The Department of State Services has warned against the planned nationwide protest, tagged 10 Days of Rage across the country.

The agency said on Thursday that it had already identified the sponsors of the planned protest and warned them not to proceed with it as it is not in Nigeria’s best interest.

The warning is contained in a press statement signed by the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Dr.PETER AFUNANYA, and made available to newsmen.

The statement alleged that the goal of the planners according the the Hashtags #TinubuMustGo and #RevolutionNow is to illegally force a change of democratically elected leadership, especially at the centre using violent means.

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, has cautioned the federal government against de-marketing local industries.

This came on a day civil society and religious groups demanded a probe into activities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL, following allegations by ALIKO DANGOTE that some officials of the company operate a blending plant in Malta, from where they import low quality fuel into the country.

MAN’s Director-General, SEGUN AJAYI-KADIR has warned that government agencies providing regulatory oversight functions should promote an enabling environment for local investments to thrive.
