CAF Sets Up 8 Man Committee to Investigate Libya-Nigerian Crisis

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has constituted a disciplinary panel led by Senegal’s OUSMANE KANE, to decide on the circumstances that led to the cancellation of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between hosts, Libya and Nigeria.

Libya was supposed to host Nigeria in the second leg of the qualifier in Benina, near Benghazi, yesterday, but the game could not be held following Nigeria’s withdrawal citing poor, or non-existent reception by the hosts, which endangered the lives of the players and their officials.

The Nigerian delegation alleged that they were detained in a Libyan airport for close to 16 hours from Sunday to Monday, with nobody from the Libyan government, or its football federation on hand to receive them.

The CAF panel is expected to unravel the circumstances leading to the cancellation of the game, with particular reference to its statutes and regulations, particularly those dealing with match organisation, player welfare, and the principles governing the integrity of the competition.

Kenya’s Deputy President Pleads “Not Guilty” to Impeachment Charges

Kenya’s Vice President RIGATHI GACHAGUA who faces impeachment has pleaded not guilty to all allegations including corruption, inciting ethnic divisions and support for historic anti-government protests.

His legal team has two days to cross-examine witnesses, as the senate will vote thereafter.

Court rulings this week allowed the parliament and senate to proceed with the impeachment debate, despite concerns over irregularities raised by the vice president’s lawyers.

The 59-year-old politician has called the allegations politically motivated.

The case highlights the friction between the Vice President and President WILLIAM RUTO, something that RUTO once vowed to avoid after his past troubled relationship as vice to Kenya’s previous president, UHURU KENYATTA.

Reps Call for Downward Review of Petrol Pump Price

the House of Representatives has called on President BOLA TINUBU to transmit the 2025 budget proposal to the National Assembly without further delay.

This resolution was passed during the plenary session yesterday, following a motion moved by the member Representing Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika Federal constituency, CLEMENT JIMBO.

The lawmaker emphasized the need for the president to comply with Section 11(1b) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2027, which mandates the submission of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework at least four months before the commencement of the next financial year.

JIMBO expressed concern over the president’s failure to transmit the Framework and the 2025 budget proposal, stressing that the National Assembly holds constitutional authority to oversee the use of appropriated funds.

The motion was adopted by a voice vote conducted by the Speaker, TAJUDEEN ABBAS. The parliament also directed its committees on national planning, economic development, appropriation, and finance to ensure compliance within two weeks.
