Port Harcourt Helicopter Crash Claims 8 Lives

An Helicopter belonging to Eastwind Aviation has crashed into Bonny River, in Rivers State,killing all eight occupants on board.

The helicopter, carrying eight persons; six passengers and two crew members, took off from Port Harcourt Military base to FPSO NUIM ANTAN (offshore Calabar).

The Rivers State Police Command said all eight persons aboard the helicopter that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean are reportedly dead.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement in Port Harcourt, yesterday, said: “The Rivers State Police Command regrets to inform the public of a tragic incident that occurred today, at 11am.

“Mr. Ifeanyi Udogwu, a staff of Antan Producing Limited, Port Harcourt, reported to the Command that a helicopter with the call sign number 5N-BQG (S76C+), belonging to East Wing Aviation, departed from the NAF Base in Port Harcourt. The flight was bound for Nuim Antan OML123 fields, carrying two crew members and six passengers.

“Unfortunately, about 11a.m., the helicopter reportedly ditched into the ocean near Antan Producing Limited’s Mimbo platform and FPSO. All eight persons onboard are feared dead.

“The Marine Division of the Rivers State Police Command is cooperating with other agencies to recover the aircraft and the occupants.

“The Rivers State Police Command extends its deepest condolences to the families of the tragic times.

Akwa Ibom Transport Task Force to Commence Operations On October 28

Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Transport is informing members of the public, particularly transport operators, that the task force on activities of the motor parks and touting within Uyo capital city shall commence operations on Monday, 28thOctober 2024.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Transport, Rt. Hon. ORMAN ESIN, therefore directs all operators of unauthorized motor parks or loading points to relocate to government approved motor parks.

The statement further advised members of the public travelling within and outside the state to board vehicles at government approved motor parks and terminals for their own safety and best interest.

The Ministry also directed motorcyclists operating on major roads and one-way within Uyo metropolis to desist forthwith.

Accordingly, all transport unions and stakeholders in the state are advised to adhere strictly to the directive as defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted in line with relevant laws.

Labour Commends Governor Umo Eno For 80,000 Minimum Wage

Nigeria Labour Congress, Akwa Ibom state chapter has commended Governor UMO ENO for his approval of 80,000 Naira as minimum wage for workers in the state.

The Chairman of NLC, Comrade SUNNY JAMES noted that the development has further demonstrated the Governor’s love for the workers in Akwa Ibom State.

Comrade JAMES who stated this in a telephone interview with Inspiration FM News also expressed hope that the committee would expedite actions to complete its deliverables so that Akwa Ibom workers can take advantage of the gesture.

The Labour leader in the state urged Akwa Ibom workers to maintain diligence in discharging duties at their respective areas of engagements.

He also assured them of the Union’s Commitment to protect the workers interest.

President Tinubu Order Cut in Government Appointees Costs

President BOLA TINUBU has restricted Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies of the Federal Government to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys.

The cost-cutting measure was announced yesterday in a statement signed by the President. All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of these changes.

Recall that in January this year, President TINUBU took significant steps to reduce government expenditure by reducing his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials. For local trips, he reduced it to 25 officials while the Vice President’s entourage was reduced to five officials on foreign trips and 15 for local trips.

President TINUBU also ordered all ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies to have at most five security personnel attached to them, comprising of four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.
