Commissioner of Transport Aims to Implement Resolutions of Stakeholders Summit

The State’s Transport Ministry has taken bold steps to implement resolutions from the recent transport stakeholders summit.

The Commissioner for Transport, Rt. Hon. ORMAN ESIN, on Monday, November 4th launched an anti-touting committee to restore order on the state’s roads.

The committee is to clampdown on defaulters who park wrongly, one way users, motorcyclists going beyond their areas of operation, drivers using wrong indicators, among others, in a bid to sanitize the transport sector.

The move aligns with Governor UMO ENO’s ARISE agenda, aiming to sanitize the transport sector.

The move is also to curb avoidable road crashes in the state during the fast approaching Yuletide. Hon. ESIN also demanded the highest level of professionalism from members of the committee, notifying that the ministry is working with the Police to deploy some officers to join the committee in the operations.

He warned members of the public against disobeying traffic instructions, noting that mobile courts are strategically positioned across the state for speedy trial of offenders, in accordance with the law enabling its operations.

ESIN, who noted that the committee seeks to minimize avoidable accidents during the upcoming Yuletide season, demanded a top-notch professionalism from committee members.

By implementing these measures, the Transport Ministry aims to ensure a safer, more organized transportation system in Akwa Ibom State.
