Delta State Governor to Pay N5bn Promotion Arrears to Worker in the State

Governor of Delta state, Sheriff Oborevwori has said in fulfillment of his campaign promises, he has approved the payment of promotion arrears worth five billion naira to workers in the state.

The Governor however said the promotion arrears will be paid in three tranches from August to end in October 2023.

Oborevwori spoke while addressing workers during his visit to the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba, the state capital.

He therefore urged workers in the state to remain committed to their duties.

As a promise keeper, I came here for two reasons; to see how you are doing in your work places and to bring the good news that the promotion arrears you have been demanding for all these years, have been approved.

“I have come here to notify you that I have approved it, because I am governor for all of you and for all the people of Delta, as I promised you with my M.O.R.E Agenda.

“We know the money is huge; its almost five billion naira, but I promised to pay you and I have signed the memo and approved it,” he said.

Oborevwori added, “you will be paid in three tranches from next month, August to October 2023. Continue to do more and work for the interest of this state.

“I thank you very much for your support and please don’t play with your work.

“I can come here anytime without informing the Head of Service.

“Today, I decided to inform him but the next time I am coming, I won’t notify you and I will just go into one of these offices to see what they are doing.”

Earlier, the State Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko, who conducted the governor round the secretariat, expressed appreciation to the governor for approving the payment of the promotion arrears and for visiting the workers.

Bayoko pledged the unalloyed commitment of the state’s workforce to the actualisation of the governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

The workers, who were excited by the governor’s visit, lauded Oborevwori for being the first governor to visit workers in their secretariat.

Oborevwori was accompanied by his Deputy, Monday Onyeme and other top government functionaries.

July 25, 2023 Suspended CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele Appears in Court on Charges of illegal Arms Possession, Gets N20m Bail

Suspended CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele Appears in Court on Charges of illegal Arms Possession, Gets N20m Bail

Suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, on Tuesday morning, was arraigned at the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on two counts of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Emefiele was arraigned before the vacation judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, after over six weeks since his arrest and detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).

After several legal fireworks by Emefiele’s counsel challenging his prolonged detention by the DSS, the secret police bowed to pressure on July 13, 2023 and announced that the suspended apex bank chief has been charged to court.

Emefiele was brought to court by DSS operatives in a hilux vehicle on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

Emefiele pleaded “Not Guilty” to the two counts bordering on illegal possession of firearms and ammunition preferred against him by the Federal Ministry of Justice.

The ministry of justice in the charge accused Emefiele of possessing a single-barrelled shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a licence.

The agency also accused him of illegally being in possession of 23 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges) without a licence.

FMJ said that the defendant committed the offences on June 15, at No. 3b Iru Close, Ikoyi area of Lagos.

According to the charge, the offence committed contravened Section 4 and Section 8 of the Firearms Cap F28 laws of the Federation Act 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b) (I),(II) of the same Act.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted bail to the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in the sum of N20m with one surety in like sum, after listening to the submissions of Emefiele’s counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN).

The judge rejected the Federal Government’s claim that Emefiele was a flight risk. He ruled that the government failed to provide any fact to support its claim.

Emefiele, 61, had also pleaded “not guilty” to the two-count charge of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition filed against him by the Federal Government.

In his submissions, Daudu had urged the court to grant bail on self recognizance or on other liberal terms, pending the hearing and determination of the trial.

July 25, 2023 Seibarugu, Sunny-Goli, Brigidi, Others Set to Dump Sylva for Diri Ahead of Bayelsa Governorship Election

Seibarugu, Sunny-Goli, Brigidi, Others Set to Dump Sylva for Diri Ahead of Bayelsa Governorship Election

There is growing tension and uncertainty in the camp of the former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, as preparation for the November 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa State gathers momentum.

It was gathered that top Sylva loyalists have decided to withdraw their support for his governorship ambition due to lingering internal crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, which is creating division, to key into the prosperity agenda of Governor Douye Diri

Those who may leave the party include the former Deputy Governor, Werinipre Seibarugu, Israel Sunny-Goli, immediate past member, House of Representatives for Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency, Irigha Brigidi, incumbent state lawmaker representing Nembe Constituency 2, Festus Daumiebi and former Environment Commissioner, Robert Ayalla Enogha.

According to party chieftains, they alleged that Sylva forced his candidacy on the party, imposing Joshua Maciver as his running mate without due consultations with other leaders and stakeholders.

They, however, decided to declare support for Diri’s re-election bid. Further investigations showed that the decisions to dump the APC and Sylva’s governorship ambition were also due to their exclusion in the affairs and decision-making process of the party.

They also alleged threat to life and violent conducts against loyalists, who voiced their reservations on the way the party is managed, as well as the shabby treatment they have been subjected to by Sylva and the party.

The poor handling of the Nembe-Bassambiri intra-communal crisis, which led to killings and loss of electoral votes during the last National Assembly elections, reportedly angered sunny-Goli.

It was also learnt that he was also dissatisfied by the way former Brass Council Chairman, Victor Isaiah, was welcomed into APC, handing him the political and operational leadership of the council despite unresolved issues against him during the events leading to the 2019 elections.
