Bayelsa Commissioner’s Kidnap: Gov. Diri Dethrones Otuokpoti Paramount Ruler, Sacks CDC Chairman, Youth President. Police Declare 4 wanted

The Bayelsa state Governor, Sen. Douye Diri in company of his Deputy, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, have received the Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Federal Otokito, who was rescued from his abductors by the security in the State.

The Governor who said no ransom was paid made it clear that the State would not be a safe haven for criminals.

To this end, the Governor has announced the dethronement of the Paramount Ruler of Otuokpoti community, in Ogbia Local Government Area, Chief A. C. T. Wongo while the Chairman of the Chiefs Council, Chief Rescue Abe, has been appointed Acting Paramount Ruler.
Also, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee, Mr. Azibalua Amon has been sacked and replaced by Mr. Jerry Offor in Acting Capacity.
Also, Mr. Emolem Igue has been removed as Youth President of Otuokpoti and replaced by Mr. Shadrach Afiemo.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State, Mr. Ben Okolo, has declared four persons wanted in connection with the kidnap.
Those declared wanted are: Joshua Abi, Clergy Okio Mabinton, Azini and Gift Tebeda.

Onofiok Luke Supports Establishment of Modular Refineries

Member representing Etinan/ Nsit Ibom /Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency, Mr Onofiok Luke has expressed support for the establishment of modular refineries in the country through licensing and financial encouragement by the Federal Government.
Luke who was contributing to the debate on a Matter of Urgent Public Importance: ‘THE URGENT NEED TO CURB THE ACTIVITIES OF ILLEGAL CRUDE OIL REFINERIES IN THE NIGER DELTA REGION TO END THE SOOT CURRENTLY EXPERIENCED IN THE REGION’, brought on the floor of the House of Representatives by the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Mr Unyime Idem said that the issuance of licenses by the federal government will curb environmental degradation in the Niger Delta.
The Lawmaker said that the motion was timely given the challenges that illegal refineries have posed to the people and the environment. He added that granting licenses for the operation of modular refineries will reduce unemployment and curb the activities of illegal refineries that has plagued the Niger Delta region.
He also commended the Rivers State Governor, Mr Nyesom Wike for rising to the occasion to stop the operation of illegal refineries in his state. Governor Woke had begun a clampdown on illegal refineries in state in a bid to tackle the attendant health challenges it has brought to the people.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila mandated the joint committees on Host Community and Downstream to investigate the matter and report back within six weeks for further legislative action.

Ex Corp Member Discharged of Murder as Court Strikes out Case in Uyo

A National Youth Service Corps member, Chidinma Paschaline Odume, who was standing trial over the gruesome murder of a 26-year man in Uyo, Akwaowo Japheth, has been discharged by Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo.

The incident  occurred on 10th January, 2021 at Abak Road, Uyo following a misunderstanding between the deceased and the accused person.

The Presiding judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, in his ruling struck out the case and discharged the accused person following the Nolle Prosequi entered by the Attorney General of the State, dated 10th January, 2022.

Nolle Prosequi is a formal notice of discontinuationof the prosecution without a conviction.

The Court noted that the action was pursuant to section 211 (1) (c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Section 71 of the Criminal Code Procedure Law of Akwa Ibom State.

Former Oyo State Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala Dies at 71

Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, a former Deputy Governor and later Governor of Oyo State, is dead. Alao-Akala was the governor of Oyo state between 2007 and 2011. Although the details of his death are still sketchy but sources close to the politician has confirmed it.

It has been widely reported that Alao-Akala who had been battling an unknown terminal ailment for a while, died in his Ogbomoso country home, on Wednesday morning.

On January 8, 2022, Prof Taibat Danmole, Alao-Akala’s daughter who was a lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU), also died.

Born on June 3, 1950, at Ogbomoso in the Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alao-Akala had his elementary school at Osupa Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso before proceeding to Kamina Barracks Middle School, 5th Battalion of Infantry in Tamale, Ghana.
