Rivers PDP Chairman Sworn Into Revenue Mobilisation Commission and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC)

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Bola Tinubu, has sworn in Ambassador Desmond Akawor as a Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in Abuja.

Ambassador Akwawor; the current Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State,  was recently screened for office by the Senate, alongside others,

The brief swearing-in ceremony was held minutes before the commencement of the first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in the year, in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Immediately after the swearing-in ceremony, the President presided over the (FEC) which has the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume and other members of the cabinet in attendance.

NNPCL Unearths over 80 Bunkering Sites in 1 week

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited; NNPCL said it has in the space of 1 week discovered about 83 illegal refineries in the Niger Delta region.

This is according to a post on the official handle of NNPCL, adding that 15 illegal pipeline connections were also discovered within the same period.

“In the past week, 15 illegal pipeline connections and 83 illegal refineries have been uncovered in the Niger Delta,” the NNPCL said.

it was disclosed that between January 6 and 12, a total of 211 incidents of oil theft and vandalism were reported.

Seven cases of vandalism were recorded including a wellhead in the Umuajuloke community in Rivers State.

In Owerri, it was said that an active wellhead was found with several illegal connections.

It was also learnt that nine cases of oil spills were recorded in the week, mostly caused by vandalism, adding that Ogboinbiri in Bayelsa State has been ruined by oil spills.

83 illegal connections were spotted in Rivers, Abia, Imo and Bayelsa States.

“In Abia, a drone shot showed pockets of illegal refineries in Owaza, while illegal oil connections were discovered in Olodiama, Bayelsa State and Obuzor in Abia State,” the NNPCL informed.

Explosion in Ibadan Caused by Dynamite Stored by Illegal Miners – Gov. Seyi Makinde

The Governor of Oyo State , Seyi Makinde, in the wake of a massive explosion that rocked Ibadan, the state capital, has confirmed that preliminary investigations by security agencies revealed that the explosion on Tuesday was caused by explosive devices stored by illegal miners.

Government sources confirmed that 2 persons have been confirmed dead while some 77 others are hospitalised following the explosion that also affected a section of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Oyo State House of Assembly, the residence of the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, some buildings at Ologuneru, Apete, New Garage, Bashorun, Akobo, Sango and Eleyele.

Makinde, who visited the scene of the explosion Tuesday night, said though further investigations were still ongoing and anyone found culpable would be brought to book.

“Preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which caused the blast. The investigations are ongoing. All those found culpable for this will be brought to book,” he posted on his X handle.

The governor urged residents to be calm, noting that rescue operations had already started at the scene of the incident.

Earth-moving equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and security were deployed to the scene of the incident. The wounded and injured are being treated and moved to public and private hospitals within Ibadan.

“Medical personnel are on standby at these hospitals to provide all needed assistance to the injured. We have visited UCH to see some of those injured during the incident.

“I urge all residents to please call 615 for any emergencies they may be experiencing at this time and to remain calm and stay away from the immediate scene of the incident to allow rescue operations to be carried out without interference,” he added.

Minister of Interior to Face Code of Conduce Bureau Panel Over N438m Scam

The Code of Conduct Bureau has invited the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, over the alleged involvement of his company in a purported N438m contract scam uncovered in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

The CCB has commenced an investigation into the alleged breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers by the Minister and others.

In a letter signed by Gwimi S.P, the CCB Director, Investigation and Monitoring, on behalf of the CCB Chairman, Murtala Aliyu, the Bureau invited the embattled minister to appear before it on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the CCB Headquarters, Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja.

The letter addressed to the Minister, read,The bureau is investigating a case of alleged breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers in which your name featured prominently. Consequently, you are invited for an interview scheduled as follows:

“Date: Tuesday, 16th January, 2024. Time: 1100hrs prompt. Venue: CCB Headquarters on 5th Floor, Annex III, Phase I, Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja.

“This invitation is pursuant to the mandate and powers of the Bureau as enshrined in the Third Schedule, Part I, Paragraph 3 (e) to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. Please be properly guided.”

A company, New Planet Projects, allegedly belonging to the Minister, benefitted from an alleged contract scam from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, hence the need for the invite.
