Ukanafun Residents Call for Cancellation of the ARISE Empowerment List Over Hijack by Elites

Reactions continue to trail the recent Arise Empowerment Lists for Ukanafun Local Government, residents of Akwa Ibom have called for a fresh list of beneficiaries.

Although, the exercise has been without complaints in three Federal Constituencies, but with the Last Town Square Meeting in Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, there were concerns that the List for Ukanafun local Government, is more of the Elite members than the Less privileged it was designed for.

Speaking with Inspiration FM News, the Residents demanded for the total Cancellation of the List.

However, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party – PDP, Elder ANIEKAN AKPAN, whose Children were spotted on the empowerment list has debunk allegations of irregularities.

Nigerian Senate to Convene Summit to Tackle Insecurity

The Nigerian Senate has adopted a motion to convoke a two-day security summit to proffer solution to the insecurity affecting the nation.

The Senate, during plenary on Tuesday, adopted a motion to convoke a two-day security summit to proffer solution to the challenges.

Sponsor of the motion, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District in the motion, attributed insecurity in Nigeria to  global security issues.

After a debate on the motion by lawmakers, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio upheld a two-day national summit, instead of the three-day, as contained in the prayer of the motion.

The Senate President expressed optimism that the proposed summit will proffer solutions even as governors, traditional rulers, Service Chiefs, ad well as security experts participate to suggest solutions to the worsening security issues in Nigeria.

Elsewhere, retired military generals have  asked the federal government to urgently equip the Nigerian Armed Forces to help them tackle the growing concerns over the resurgence of terrorists’ attacks and killings in the North-East Nigeria.

Uniuyo Professor Abducted in Imo

Professor Herbert Bata, a newly elevated full professor at the University of Uyo, has been kidnapped in Owerri, Imo State. The incident occurred while he was returning from a trip.

According to eyewitness accounts, the professor was abducted alongside several others. A colleague who managed to escape confirmed the kidnapping and described the incident as traumatic.

As of the time of this report, the police and the authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the issue. Meanwhile, the academic community and concerned citizens have called for prayers and swift action to secure his release.

“Nigeria First” Policy Gets FEC Nod

the Federal Executive Council has approved a new policy directive aimed at prioritisingNigerian goods, and services in all government-related economic activities.

The move followed a proposal by President BOLA TINUBU to institutionalise what he has termed the Renewed Hope Nigeria First policy.

Briefing journalists at the State House in Abuja after the FEC meeting presided over by the President, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the policy as “a major shift in government policy”.

According to the minister, the ‘Nigeria First policy’ will be implemented through an executive order currently being prepared by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
