Governor Umo Eno In Switzerland to Inspect Ibom Air Acquisitions

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor UMO ENO has visited the Samco Aviation Maintenance Facility in Maastricht, Netherlands, to inspect the new Airbus A220-300 series aircraft acquired by IbomAir.

This new acquisition from Carlyle Aviation aims to enhance IbomAir’s operations, as they await the delivery of planes previously ordered from Airbus.

According to Captain MFON UDOM, CEO of IbomAir, this addition is crucial to meet the growing demand from passengers who have made IbomAir their airline of choice.

Governor ENO on the trip also met with top Airbus executives to discuss the delivery timelines for the remaining aircraft ordered by IbomAir during the 2021 Dubai Airshow.

The Airbus team commended the state government for the investment in aviation, especially the construction of the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility.

President Tinubu Hails Supreme Court Judgement on Local Government Autonomy

President BOLA TINUBU has hailed the Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy, adding that Nigerians, especially the poor, will be able to hold their local leaders to account.

The President also said an ineffective local government administration is a fundamental challenge to the nation’s advancement over the years.

The apex court had yesterday, declared that it is unconstitutional for state governors to hold onto funds meant for local governments.

The Supreme Court also barred governors from dissolving democratically elected local government councils, saying that doing so would amount to a breach of the 1999 Constitution.

Rwanda Heads to The Polls as Kagame Hopes to Retain Presidency

Rwandans will vote in elections on Monday, with President PAUL KAGAME widely expected to extend his iron-fisted rule and sweep to victory in a race featuring the same candidates he defeated seven years ago.

Rwanda’s de facto ruler since the end of the 1994 genocide, KAGAME faces rival bids by FRANK HABINEZA, leader of the Democratic Green Party and PHILIPPE MPAYIMANA, who is running as an independent.

The 66-year-old KAGAME is credited with Rwanda’s economic recovery after the genocide, with annual GDP growth averaging 7.2 percent between 2012-2022.

KAGAME has won three elections with more than 93 percent of the vote in 2003, 2010 and 2017, taking home nearly 99 percent in the most recent poll.

A total of 9.01 million Rwandans are registered to vote, with the presidential poll being held at the same time as legislative elections for the first time

Federal Government Approves Mechanized Farm Tools For Improved Food Production

The federal government has announced the approval of 2,000 tractors, 4,000 disc ploughs, 1,200 tractor trailers and other equipment under its National Agricultural Mechanization Programme, NAMP, to promote food security in Nigeria.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, BAYO ONANUGA, disclosed this in a statement on his X handle, outlining the outcomes of Thursday’s FEC meeting in Abuja.

He stated that the approval included other assorted spare parts that would boost Nigeria’s food production drive.

The development comes after the government had earlier announced a plan to grant a 150-day suspension of taxes, and import duties on rice, wheat, beans and other staple foods to tackle soaring food inflation in the country which rose to 40.66 percent in May.
