Eagles Set for Amavubi Challenge in Last AFCON25 Qualifier

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to clash with the Amavubi of Rwanda today at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, in the last qualifier for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.

Although the Eagles have already secured their place at the tournament, Rwanda needs to beat Nigeria at home, while expecting Libya to get a result against Benin republic.

Super Eagles interim coach AUGUSTINE EGUAVOEN is sweating over the fitness of some players including Atalanta forward ADEMOLA LOOKMAN ahead of today’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

LOOKMAN is yet to fully recover from a knock he suffered in the game against Benin. Hence, he has been excused from training. Also, Lazio Player FISAYO DELE-BASHIRU has been nursing a knock, while OLA AINA has returned to England already.

The number 1 choice goalie; STANLEY NWABALI will also be absent from the squad due to the sad loss of his fatheer.

President Tinubu Off to Brazil for G20 World Summit

President BOLA TINUBU has departed Abuja for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 19th meeting of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in the South American country.

TINUBU’s participation is at the instance of the Brazilian President and current President of the group, LUIZ INACIO LULA DA SILVA.

The Summit slated from today to tomorrow, will bring together leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, including the European Union, the African Union, and multilateral financial institutions among others.

This year’s meeting, under the theme, ‘Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,’ will see the participants discuss the fight against hunger and poverty; reform of the Institution of global governance and; sustainable development and Energy Transition.

Aiyedatiwa Returns as Governor of Ondo State

The Ondo State Governor, Mr LUCKY AYEDATIWA, has been declared the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

He was returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission after winning the governorship poll in all 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

AYEDATIWA, who won in EseOdo Local Government Area in the last Local Government result presented on Sunday at the State Collation Centre in Akure, had previously won in the 17 areas earlier announced.

In the final declaration of the result by the State Returning Officer, Prof OLAYEMI AKINWUMI, he said the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, AYEDATIWA polled in total of 366,781 votes to defeat AGBOOLA AJAYI of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 117,845 votes.

In his acceptance speech, LUCKY AIYEDATIWA urged opposition parties to join hands with him and develop the state together. He promised to run an all-inclusive government.

AKIRS Begins Deployment of Digital Technology for Tax Collections

The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) has announced that it will begin the deployment of digital technologies for tax collection from next year as part of effort to increase the internally generated revenue IGR of the state.

The Executive Chairman of AKIRS, Mr. OKON OKON, made the announcement during a press briefing yesterday in Uyo, noting that the decision formed part of the resolutions reached ina two-day strategic session for the 2025 fiscal year that ended on Saturday.

Mr. OKON maintained that the exercise is to enhance revenue collection and capture tax invaders in the state.

The AKIRS Executive Chairman further promised to provide an enabling environment to encourage entrepreneurship across the state.

He promised to ensure that the state progresses in terms of IGR by up scaling the ongoing tax sensitization and enlightenment campaigns to raise awareness on tax payment   as a civic responsibility, and deepen voluntary compliance.
