Rivers State Police Assures of Safety as Chidi LLoyd Empowers Indigenes with Matchetes for Agriculture on Tenure Expiration

The Commissioner of Police, OLATUNJI DISU, has assured the people of the state that he and his men won’t allow the crisis enveloping the Local Government Areas (LGAs) to lead to a breakdown of law and order.

 

CP DISU noted that the police are aware of the situation at the different LGAs and expect the different political players to respect the appeal and cease hostilities pending the hearing and determination of their case.

 

CP DISU warned that his men are equal to the task of securing the different council headquarters and won’t tolerate any attempt to disturb the peace in the state.

 

Meanwhile, the Local Government Chairman of Emohua in Rivers State, CHIDI LLOYD, who has insisted that he won’t leave office after the expiration of his tenure on June 17, has announced an empowerment scheme for residents of his local government area.

 

LLOYD in a statement by his media aide, BRIGHT JOSSY, noted that the council under his leadership would distribute machetes and other tools as farm implements to support the development of agriculture in the area.

The Presidency has insisted that the 250,000 naira minimum wage clamour by Organised Labour is unsustainable, warning that the Federal Government cannot channel all its resources to meet such a demand.

 

The Special Adviser to President BOLA TINUBU on Information and Strategy, BAYO ONANUGA disclosed this after the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria – ALGON raised concerns over the 62,000 naira proposed by the Federal Government.

 

Replying to this, Mr. ONANUGA maintained that unless the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress were selfish, they should consider that the resources meant for the entire Nigerians could not be channeled to only the benefit of their members who are not more than 10 per cent of the entire population.

UNICEF Tasks Nigerian Schools on Cholera Prevention and Spread

 

As schools return from the Eid break, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has called for extensive measures to protect school children, following the outbreak of cholera in Lagos and some states.

 

The Chief of UNICEF Lagos Field Office, CELINE LAFOUCRIER ,who made the call in a statement, said that the cholera outbreaks critically affected children and the young population.

 

According to LAFOUCRIERE, these vulnerable groups face substantial health high risks particularly children and young adults attending schools, as they are prone to severe dehydration and high mortality rate.

 

She noted that there is urgent need for good sanitation, hygiene practices, improved access to clean water, regular handwashing with soap and clean water in order to combat the outbreak in schools.

Rangers International Of Enugu Emerge Champions of the NPFL

Rangers international Football Club of Enugu have been crowned champions of the 2023/2024 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).

 

This comes after the Flying Antelopes defeated Bendel Insurance 2-0 in Enugu on Sunday.

 

The win took Rangers to an unassailable 67 points at the summit of the table after their closest rivals Remo Stars lost 2-1 to Sunshine Stars and Enyimba losing to Sporting Lagos.

 

Meanwhile, Abia Warriors have secured their status in the NPFL on the back of a 2-0 home win over fellow strugglers Akwa United.

 

SUNDAYMEGWO scored an early goal at the 4th minute of the game to give the host a lead, and later sealed it up with another at the 51 minute to make the score line 2-0.

 

By the losing the NPFL Matchday 37, Akwa United, have now dropped to 16th in the standings with 46 points from 37 matches and a 0 goals difference.
