NAFDAC Seeks Support of Nigerians to Fight Counterfeit Drugs and Products

The Director-General of theNational Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control – NAFDAC, Mrs. MOJISOLA ADEYEYE, has called for more intelligence reports about counterfeit products to tackle the problem.

Mrs ADEYEYE, who stated this yesterday, stressed the need for support from Nigerians, noting that the agency alone could not fight counterfeit products.

She urged the public to call the food and drug regulator helpline on 080-162-3322 for any information on drugs or food found to have truly violated the law, adding that any company found violating the agency’s rules and regulations on standards would be shut.

AKSEPWMA Chairman Assures of War Against Waste In Akwa Ibom

Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency – AKSEPWMA, Hon. PRINCE IKIM has reiterated the procedures for waste management in the state.

Hon. IKIM made this known in environmental hour on INSPIRATION Fm, noting that the appropriate time for dumping of waste is from 6am to 6pm.

He kicked against all forms of indiscrimate dumping of waste in the state.

He also vowed to go against those violating waste laws in the state, as Ibom Community Watch personnel have been deployed to apprehend offenders.

Ibeno Community Cries out for Potable Drinking Water

The People of OkoriItak community in Ibeno Local Government Area has appealed to the state government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and well-meaning individuals to help restore drinkable water for the community.

The people made the appeal when a humanitarian group, Action AIDS, partnered with the Clement Isong Foundation to visit the community with the aim of bringing the plight of the oil communities in Ibeno to the limelight.

They complained that lack of maintenance of the dilapidated water project, which was installed for them in 2005, has forced them to resort to an abandoned weed-infested shallow oil well as the only source of water.

Speaking with Newsmen, the youth president of OkoriItak, Mr. OKON VICTOR ITRECHIO, complained about the negligence by the government and Network Exploration and Production Nigeria, anOil company operating in the area despite having agreements and receiving several letters from the community for intervention.

Speaking further, another member of the community, Mr. Joseph Nana, called for help to make the community have sustainable and portable water to drink.

Primary Schools In India Shut Down Due to Worsening Air Quality

Primary schools in Delhi are closing down due to worsening air pollution.

The Indian capital’s chief minister, ATISHI MARLENA SINGH said classes will move online, until further notice due to a thick smog that has enveloped the city.

Delhi and nearby cities are experiencing pollution levels that are deemed hazardous to people’s health. On Thursday, fine particulate matter in the air was more than 50 times what is considered safe by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Delhi and northern states in India, annually face smog during the winter due to a confluence of dropping temperatures, smoke, dust, low wind speeds, vehicle emissions and crop stubble burning.
