Asa Sues Joeboy for 300 Million, Over Copyright Infringements

Nigerian singer and songwriter Bukola Elemide, popularly known as Asa, has sued new pop sensation, Joeboy over unauthorised use of her intellectual property without permission.

In a copyright infringement notice drafted and shared by her legal counsels dated September 30, Asa accused Joeboy of using her musical composition without permission.According to the details of the suit, the Asa composition Joeboy was accused of stealing was used on his new song ‘Contour’.

In the suit, Asa claims that she had created the composition on 22, September 2020 during a recording session with Tempoe, the producer of ‘Contour’.

However, the composition, according to the suit, ended up on Joeboy’s ‘Contour’ without Asa’s prior knowledge or permission.

Asa wants the song removed from all digital platforms within 24hrs and also asks that the sum of 300,000,000 naira be paid as well as 60% publishing split on the song.

Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria ARCON Sues Meta

The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria(ARCON) has filed a case against Meta Platforms Incorporated, owners of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp platforms and its agent AT3 Resources Limited at the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division.

According to a statement on Tuesday by the apex regulatory body for Nigeria’s advertising ecosystem, ARCON is seeking a declaration among others that the continued publication and exposure of various advertisements directed at the Nigerian market through Facebook and Instagram platforms by Meta Platforms Incorporated without ensuring the same is vetted and approved before exposure is illegal, unlawful and a violation of the extant advertising Law in Nigeria.

ARCON stated that Meta Platforms Incorporated’s continued exposure of unvetted adverts had also led to loss of revenue to the Federal Government.

ARCON is seeking N30bn in sanction for the violation of the advertising laws and for loss of revenue as a result of Meta Incorporated’s continued exposure of unapproved adverts on it’s platforms.

According to ARCON, the Council is not regulating the online media space. Rather, it’s focus is on advertising and marketing communications on the online platforms in line with its establishment Act.

The City of Eket, in Akwa Ibom state is already agog with activities to herald the commissioning and inauguration of its remodeled “Eket Township Stadium”.

The edifice had been in s state of disrepair after Mobil Pegasus football club ceased to exist, but the for the timely vision of the state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel ably translated by the Honorable Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Hon. Monday Ebong Uko.

The Stadium with boasts of a Classic playing artificial turf with standard tartan tracks will host its first match today (30th September) between Akwa United Football Club of Uyo, and Katsina United FC.

The Inauguration will have in attendance, the Governor of Niger State; Alhaji Abubakar Bello alongside other dignitaries from all works of life to celebrate this Epoch making event.

The Chairman of Akwa United and SSA to the Governor on Sports, Elder Paul Bassey; himself a proud son of Eket Local Government Area , heaped praises on the Governor of Akwa ibom state for completing this project and offering more options to the array of talents that abound in the region. “The Eket stadium offers us more options, and takes the weight of the Nest of Champions that’s currently used by all the Teams in the state. It also provides access to standard facilities for young talents to be developed”

The Stadium commissioning is part of activities to mark the 35th Anniversary of Akwa Ibom State.

Grammy Winning American Rapper “Coolio” Dies at 59

American Rapper “Coolio”, who gave the world hit songs like “Gangsta’s Paradise” and “Fantastic Voyage,” has died at 59.

His real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr, was a hit rapper in the 90’s won a Grammy for the 1995 track Gangsta’s Paradise.

His friend and manager Jarez Posey, confirmed his death on Wednesday afternoon. He was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of a friend’s LA house.

Although details on the circumstances were not immediately available and the exact cause of death has not been disclosed, Paramedics confirmed he had suffered a cardiac arrest. He was declared dead after 45 minutes of CPR.
