Obong Victor Attah Tasks Ibom Golf Resort to Attract International Competition to the Facility

Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Architect Obong VICTOR ATTAH, has urged management of Ibom Golf and Country Club, to introduce international flavour to Ibom Golf competition by inviting renowned world class golfers in order to give the golf course the exposure it deserves.

Speaking at the recent 86th birthday anniversary celebration organized in his honour by members of Ibom Golf and Country Club, in Uyo, the former Governor also known as the Father of Modern Akwa Ibom, suggested that the state government also bring in Polo and fishing competition as that would get more attraction to the State.

Meanwhile, in an interview with newsmen, the Captain of Ibom Golf and Country Club, ISUA ARCHIBONG, explained that they chose to celebrate the former Governor whom they call Arc of Ibom Golf, during his birthday period for giving them a place where they can have fun for their wellbeing, network with all classes of people by arranging a tournament to honour him.

Similarly, Chairman of the Central planning Committee, SAMUEL THOMAS, said it has become a tradition to celebrate the living sage who, as Governor twenty-two years ago, built for Akwa Ibom State, the best Golf Course in West Africa and to which Akwa Ibom is the toast of golfers and for golfers in Nigeria and outside.

He used the opportunity to thank all their sponsors including Ibom Air, Nsik Motors, Ubotex, E-Motion, Equatorial Trust Goddy’s Chemical, the planning committee as well as the Club management whom he described as exceptional.

NUJ Akwa Ibom Begins 2024 Press Week

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, has commenced its 2024 Press Week with the theme Artificial Intelligence: The Future of Media Ethics and Content Modulation.

The opening ceremony, held yesterday at the NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive,Uyo featured Cultural Display, keynote address by CEO, Start Innovation Hub, Mr. HANSON JOHNSON, penal discussion on the theme, among others.

In his welcome address, Chairman of the 2024 Press Week, Comrade SAMUEL AYARA, said the theme is premised on the need for workable alternatives following the distortion that technologies have caused for the global community.

Also speaking, the Chairman of NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council,Comrade AMOS ETUK urged journalists to embrace Artificial Intelligence – AI, as it has come to stay.

Delivering his keynote address, Mr. JOHNSON highlighted approaches to content modulation, while Chairman on the Occasion, Hon. MARTINS ESIN, representing Oron Federal Constituency at the House Representatives spoke on the need to work on the ethical loopholes introduced by AI.

On his part, the Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Information, Comrade INI EMEMOBONG called on Journalist to learn how to deconstruct AI to fit into our cultures.

The panelists, a Lecturer from the University of Uyo, DR ABASIFREKE IDIONG, Member Representing Etinan State Constituency at the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Hon. UDUAK UFOT and CEO, Finbarr’s Consult, Mr. ANIEKME FINBARR spoke on how Journalists can use AI to their advantage.

Activities for the 2024 Press Week continues today with a free medical service for Journalists at the NUJ press centre by 8am, while Thursday is for Dinner and Award night at Emerald Event Centre, Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo by 6pm.

NLC in Akwa Ibom Threatens Shut down from December 4

The Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress – NLC has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike from Wednesday, December 4, 2024 if the new Minimum Wage agreement that will state the effective date of the implementation is not signed by midnight of Tuesday.

The decision formed the resolutions reached during an emergency State Executive Council Meeting of NLC held yesterday in Uyo.

As contained in a Communiqué signed by the state Chairman of NLC – Comrade SUNNY JAMES, the workers urged Governor UMO ENO to direct the signing of the agreement, while the workers verification exercise is ongoing.

NLC explained that they are extending the action, which was scheduled to commence on Sunday, December 1, by three days because of the burial of the first lady.

The Labour Union noted that workers will also be directed to come out en mass to the Government House gate at wellington Bassey way Uyo, on Monday, December 9, to massively protest for their new minimum wage payment.

IPMAN Akwa Ibom Denies Plans for Strike Action in December

The Chairman of the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, FRANCIS UDOYEN, says the union would not embark on strike as speculated in some section of the media.

According to him, the strike rumour stemmed from those he termed a faceless group of individuals.

It was earlier reported by that IPMAN, Akwa Ibom State chapter had concluded plans to withdraw services in the State from Sunday 1st December, 2024 in a protest over fifteen Thousand naira levy said to have been imposed on the members.

UDOYEN in a telephone interview with Inspiration FM News, said the union could not have taken such decision without the express permission of the national body, which he noted was not privy to the rumored strike.

Furthermore, the IPMAN chairman cautioned residents in Akwa Ibom against panic buying of petroleum products, adding that measures were being put in place to resolve what he called internal wrangling within the union in the state.

Inspiration FM news gathered that the report purportedly emanated from certain aggrieved members of IPMAN, who warned residents of the State to use the remaining days before Sunday 1st December to acquire as more products as they can in preparation for the planned withdrawal of service by petroleum Marketers.
