Gov. Umo Eno Warns Saboteurs Against Fuel Hike in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has warned those he described as a faceless group planning to  obstruct the supply of petroleum products to Akwa Ibom State.

 Governor ENO read the riot act when he spoke at the special service and fund raising for Church building projects at All Nations Christian Ministry Int”l. Onna Mission Field, Ikot Udo Junction, Onna Local Government Area.

 According to the Governor, the  group claiming to be members of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas wish to withdraw their service of fuel delivery in Akwa Ibom.

 The Governor directed the Commissioner for Internal Security to liaise with the Coordinator of Ibom Community Watch and other security agencies to mount surveillance at the borders to checkmate the unscrupulous elements from carrying out their evil intentions.

Governor UMO ENO went ahead to note that he will meet with the Petroleum marketers and affiliate groups today by 5pm to further address the issues.

PETROAN Dares IPMAN as Fuel Scarcity Hits Akwa Ibom

A call has been made by the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria – PETROAN Akwa Ibom state chapter on the general public to disregard any information that Petrol Fueling Stations in the state will be shut down from today, Monday, 22nd of April 2024.

PETROAN disclosed this in a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. UDEME ESSET, calling on all Retail Outlets Owners to go about their Business.

 This comes on the heels of the Independent Petroleum Marketers of Nigeria, IPMAN, Akwa Ibom state chapter directing all Petrol Fueling Stations to remain closed from today to enable Marketers  embark on a peaceful protest following the hijacking and detention of trucks and tanker drivers bringing products to State.

The IPMAN chairman, Comrade FRANCIS UDOYEN had in an exclusive with Inspiration FM over the telephone, spoke more on the move, noting that it means no harm to the people of Akwa Ibom.

However,  condemning the planned strike by IPMAN, PETROAN said enforcement team will be released from today to monitor the operations of the retails Outlets and report to the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream petroleum Regulatory Authority – NMDPRA as well as security agencies should any unauthorized persons or group decide to cause trouble.

It expressed optimism that the state government will take necessary actions against those stopping petrol Tankers on the road, thereby causing unnecessary traffic and endangering residents in a possible accident or explosion of the inflammable tankers impounded.

NDLEA Arrests 50,901 Drug Offenders in 3 Years

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has revealed that 50,901 drug offenders including 46 barons have been arrested in the last three years.

 

The Chairman of the Agency, Brig. Gen. BUBA MARWA (retd.), who made the revelations also said that within the period, the agency successfully prosecuted and convicted 9,034 of them as well as seized over 7,561 tonnes of illicit substances.

 

The NDLEA boss made the remarks at the commissioning and handing over ceremony of an operational facility built and donated to NDLEA by the British government.

 

MARWA said the development has sent the right message to drug cartels and their kingpins that Nigeria won’t tolerate their criminal activities and also commended the generous support that will further boost the capability of the agency in tackling the menace of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria.

Police Arrest 2 in Akwa Ibom Over Murder of Relatives

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 40 year old INYANGAKE JAMES PETER, for gruesomely murdering his 70 year old mother, MMA-OFFIONG JAMES PETER at Ikpe Annang Village in Essien Udim LGA.

 

The Suspect who confessed to the crime has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for discrete investigation.

 

Similarly, another suspect, SOLOMON ASUQUO ISAAC of Ikot Obok Nsit in Nsit Ibom LGA who murdered his 18 year-old son, IBORO ISAAC, following family misunderstanding, has been arrested.

 

According to a statement signed by outgoing Police Public Relations Officer, CSP ODIKO MACDON, cases of some family members killing their biological relations have become of great concern to the Command in recent times.

 

The statement assured that the suspects will be charged to court at the completion of investigation.
