CBN Makes U-Turn on 0.5% Cyber Security Levy

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has withdrawn its earlier circular directing banks to implement a controversial 0.5% cybersecurity levy on electronic transactions.

 

The decision of the apex bank to withdraw the circular followed the public outrage that trailed the announcement of the policy two weeks ago and the suspension of the levy by the Federal Government last week.

 

Recall that in its initial circular dated May 6, 2024 and addressed to all deposit money banks, mobile money operators and payment service providers, the apex bank directed the deduction of the levy to be remitted to the National Cybersecurity Fund (NCF), administered by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

JIMBO in a statement he signed noted that with all that President TINUBU has achieved within one year in office through the RENEWED HOPE Agenda and GovernorUMO ENO through the ARISE Agenda, Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians are well positioned for better days ahead.

 

He particularly lauded the president for his leadership qualities which he identified as humility, integrity and selfless service to Nigeria.

 

Hon JIMBO who is also the Deputy Chairman National Planning and Economic Development at the green chamber took time to outline some of the milestones recorded in the BOLA TINUBU Led administration which he described as remarkable.

 

Some of the achievement noted by the lawmaker are; the switching of payment for crude oil sales to central Bank of Nigeria, away from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the moribund Port Harcourt refinery being fully back to work to the collective pride of Nigerians, the introduction of the Student loan Scheme, signing of a memorandum of Understanding with the President of Russia to build a nuclear plant for Nigeria, to get stable electricity.

 

Other achievements he mentioned include approval of Kano to Lagos narrow rail express service, expected to help farmers move their goods from the hinterlands as well as a law to effect payment of certain amount to the vulnerable, aged and unemployed citizens.

 

According to him, Nigeria will certainly recover from the economic downturn occasioned by fuel subsidy removal with efforts made to float evident initiatives.

 

Hon CLEMENT JIMBO who highlighted that his appreciation to the President was on behalf of his constituency and Wife, prayed that President TINUBU will be guided by uncommon wisdom to further pilot the affairs of the country

Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Transport Lifts Ban On Freight and Heavy Goods Carriers

the Commissioner, Akwa Ibom state Ministry of Transport, Rt. Hon ORMAN ESIN has lifted the ban on the activities of Freight and Heavy Goods Carriers of Nigeria in the state.

 

This was contained in a press release issued by the Ministry of Transport and made available to Inspiration FM.

 

The commissioner in the statement gave this directive following the meeting held with members of Freight, and other Transport Unions, Stakeholders in the Transport sector and the consultant on Road Tax, to regulate the activities of Freight and Heavy Goods Carriers of Nigeria in the State.

 

Recall that the operation of Freight and heavy goods-carriers of Nigeria had been put on hold due to misconceptions relating to their operations by the general public.

 

The Commissioner has set up a committee on the collection and distribution of single haulage between the state and some relevant stakeholders tocheckmate illegal activities.

Nigeria Medical Association Withdraws Services for 3 Days Over Kidnap of Colleague

The Akwa Ibom State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association – NMA has directed allMedical Doctors in Government and Private Hospitals in the State to withdraw their services for the next 72 hours, which is three days.

 

NMA said the withdrawal of service is to enable them sympathize with their colleague, Dr JOHN ROBBIN ESU who was kidnapped on April 30th in Oron Local government Area and is still in the kidnappers’ den.

 

The directive formed part of the resolutions reached at the Association’s emergency meeting held yesterday, May 15, 2024 in Uyo.

According a released signed by the State Chairman of NMA, Prof. EMEM ABRAHAM and the  Secretary, Dr. USENOBONG MORGAN, the action is to take immediate effect, and that any doctor found at work within this period will be sanctioned.

 

Speaking with INSPIRATION FM News, the State Public Relations Officer of NMA,DR. UNYIME NDOH said Doctors are not in the good frame of mind to continue working while their colleague is still with his adductors.

 

The Medical Association however appealed to Governor UMO ENO to ensure the safe release of their member unhurt as well as guaranteeing the security of lives and properties in the state.
