Legal Practitioners Decry State of Judiciary in Akwa Ibom State

Legal practioners in Akwa Ibom have decried the state of the Judiciary in the state, highlighting the key issues affecting the optimal function of the courts, responsible for the adjudication of justice.

The Lawyers noted that these issues are affecting the independence and welfare of the Judiciary, to deliver on its functions and responsibilities.

Speaking with INSPIRATION FM News, the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association – NBA , in Akwa  Ibom, Barr AUGUSTINE ANEFIOK UDOH mentioned that the Akwa Ibom state Judiciary lacks the needed structure for efficiency and harped on the need to correct the existing anomalies.

Barr AUGUSTINE UDOH specifically referred to the hazards legal practitioners are exposed to in the course of work, following the lack of appeal courts in Akwa Ibom, including low manpower in the available courts across the state.

The NBA Chairman, Barr. AUGUSTINE UDOH also spoke about the poor state of the infrastructure of the Judiciary in the state, insisting that it is further affecting its operational base to deliver justice to the people.

Barrister EKEMINI UDIM went ahead to lament that the courts are flooded with cases, but do not have enough Judges to attend to them.

Barrister EKEMINI UDIM in his submissions added that the courts in the state need to also embrace the use of technology to computerize the justice system, expressing dismay that proceedings are still reported manually, thereby impeding accelerated hearing of cases.

A significant part of the conversation on the state of the Judiciary in Akwa Ibom was the relevance of autonomy. Here, another lawyer, Barrister ANTHONY EBUK, indicated that autonomy will reduce the bias that can be evident in the system.

They all summited that an independent Judiciary will prevent political interference in its procedure, with the administrations running seamlessly and helping the Judiciary build its potency.

Akwa Ibom State Government to Inaugurate Security Trust Fund and Petroleum Products Committee

The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to inaugurate the board of Trustees for the security Trust Fund as well as the Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee on Friday, October 11.

The announcement was contained in a release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince ENOBONG UWAH.

According to the release, the State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO   will inaugurate the Board of Trustees for the security Trust Fund and the Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee at the EXCO Chamber, Governor’s Office, Uyo by 1 pm.

AKISIEC Issues Certificates of Return to 30 PDP and 1 APC LGA Chairmen-Elect

The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission – AKISIEC has officially issued certificates of return to the Chairmen and vice Chairmen Elect of the Just concluded Local Government Elections in the state.

In the local Government polls which held on Saturday, the Peoples Democratic Party – PDP won in 30 local government areas, while the All Progressive Congress – APC won only one.

Presenting the Certificates to the elected Chairmen at the Commission’s Headquarters yesterdayin Uyo, the AKISIEC Boss, Elder ANIEDI IKOIWAKcongratulated the newly Elected Chairmen for their victory at the poll.

After their inauguration at the Government House in Uyo, the Chairmen will therefore proceed to inaugurating the Legislative councils in their various Local Government areas.

Governor Umo Eno To Swear in Newly Elected LGA Chairmen and Vice Today, Clears Air on Office of 1st Lady

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO will today, Monday, October 7, 2024 swear-in thenewly elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the 31 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Swearing in Ceremony which is to take place at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo by 8am, followed the successful conduct of the local government elections across the State on Saturday.

Speaking at the All Nations Christian Ministry International in Eket, Governor UMO ENO said it was important to immediately inaugurate the democratically-elected officials to position local government areas in the State for rapid development.

The Governor equally clarified the appointment of his eldest daughter, Mrs. HELEN OBAREKI, noting that she has been appointed as Senior Special Assistant and Coordinator of the office of the First Lady.

Governor ENO reaffirmed his gratitude to the wife of the President, Senator OluremiTinubu, and her entourage for their visit which he described as timely, while also thanking her for acknowledging the appointment of OBAREKI to run the late mother’s office.
