Akwa Ibom State Governor Calles for Equitable Spread of Appointments in LGAs

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO, has urged the newly- inaugurated Chairmen of Local Government Councils in the state to liaise with leaders and stakeholders in their areas to ensure equitable spread of the appointments of Supervisory Councillors across the various wards of their area.

Governor ENO made the call while addressing supporters who thronged Ikot AkpaEkop, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, to receive him while visiting the InyangEkpewo family, to officially inform them of the demise of his wife and First Lady, Pastor PATIENCE UMO ENO, who, until her death, was a member of the family.

The Governor said an equitable spread of political appointments will ensure harmony at the grassroots and engender a sense of belonging and a spirit of ownership.

Speaking of his bereavement, Governor UMO ENO thanked God for the legacies of his late wife, describing her as a blessing to his life whose memories, he pledged to sustain throughout his life.

He therefore assured Mkpat Enin people that he would complete all pending projects in the area and even initiate more as a gesture of his continuous respect for the marriage relationship, especially to honour the memory of the late First Lady.

The House of Representative Committee on Sports has charged the Super Eagles to secure all maximum six points in their AFCON Double Header Qualifiers against Libya.

The New Chairman of the Committee, Honourable KABIRU AMADU, Representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal constituency of Zamfara, stated this, noting that the Super Eagles have all the qualities to secure the needed wins in the two games and they just need to show it during the two games.

The Super Eagles will take on the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in Match Day three of the Qualifiers on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo before a return leg in Libya on Tuesday next week in Benghazi.

Nigeria currently tops her Africa Cup of Nations Qualification Group D with four points from two matches ahead of Friday’s tie with Libya.

Legal Practitioners Decry State of Judiciary in Akwa Ibom State

Legal practioners in Akwa Ibom have decried the state of the Judiciary in the state, highlighting the key issues affecting the optimal function of the courts, responsible for the adjudication of justice.

The Lawyers noted that these issues are affecting the independence and welfare of the Judiciary, to deliver on its functions and responsibilities.

Speaking with INSPIRATION FM News, the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association – NBA , in Akwa  Ibom, Barr AUGUSTINE ANEFIOK UDOH mentioned that the Akwa Ibom state Judiciary lacks the needed structure for efficiency and harped on the need to correct the existing anomalies.

Barr AUGUSTINE UDOH specifically referred to the hazards legal practitioners are exposed to in the course of work, following the lack of appeal courts in Akwa Ibom, including low manpower in the available courts across the state.

The NBA Chairman, Barr. AUGUSTINE UDOH also spoke about the poor state of the infrastructure of the Judiciary in the state, insisting that it is further affecting its operational base to deliver justice to the people.

Barrister EKEMINI UDIM went ahead to lament that the courts are flooded with cases, but do not have enough Judges to attend to them.

Barrister EKEMINI UDIM in his submissions added that the courts in the state need to also embrace the use of technology to computerize the justice system, expressing dismay that proceedings are still reported manually, thereby impeding accelerated hearing of cases.

A significant part of the conversation on the state of the Judiciary in Akwa Ibom was the relevance of autonomy. Here, another lawyer, Barrister ANTHONY EBUK, indicated that autonomy will reduce the bias that can be evident in the system.

They all summited that an independent Judiciary will prevent political interference in its procedure, with the administrations running seamlessly and helping the Judiciary build its potency.

Akwa Ibom State Government to Inaugurate Security Trust Fund and Petroleum Products Committee

The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to inaugurate the board of Trustees for the security Trust Fund as well as the Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee on Friday, October 11.

The announcement was contained in a release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince ENOBONG UWAH.

According to the release, the State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO   will inaugurate the Board of Trustees for the security Trust Fund and the Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee at the EXCO Chamber, Governor’s Office, Uyo by 1 pm.
