Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner Pleadges to Stem the Tide of Crime in the State

The newly-appointed Commissioner of Police, BABA MOHAMMED AZARE has pledged to tackle the rising wave of crime in Akwa Ibom Sate.

The Commissioner of Police on the assumption of office in Akwa Ibom has identified pockets of kidnappings, armed robbery, communal clashes, and homicidal cases, as some of the security challenges facing the state.

AZARE noted these during a courtesy visit to the Governor, Pastor UMO ENO at the Government House in Uyo, where he assured of his commitment to collaborate with other security agencies to address the security issues.

He affirmed that there is collaboration with the Department of State Service – DSS in the state to profile sponsors of communal clashes and that very soon, an interim report will be submitted.

The new Police Commissioner also pledged to engage the youth in dialogue to promote peaceful coexistence.

There is News of a planned protest by commercial drivers in Uyo over the increase of ticket tariff in the state.

The drivers have frowned over the increase tariff saying it makes things difficult for them coupled with the increase in petroleum product in the country.

Speaking with INSPIRATION FM news, The Chairman of Uyo Township Association of Bus Riders, COMRADE ABEL JEREMIAH said the increase in the ticket price has caused more hardship for the drivers.

COMRADE JEREMIAH also pleaded with Governor UMO ENO to give grants to drivers and also look into their plight as bus drivers.

Governor Umo Eno Assures New Police Commissioner; Azare of Continued Support

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has assured the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, of the necessary support to enable him to combat crime as well as maintain peace and security in the state.
The Governor gave the assurance when he received the new Police Commissioner, who paid a courtesy visit to his office in Government House, Uyo.
He said the state government has always maintained a robust working relationship with security agencies in the state, stressing that such will continue to prevail in order to enhance peace and development.
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the choice of CP Azare, who has previously served in the state as Deputy Commissioner (Operations). This, he said, has provided Azare with adequate knowledge of the terrain and its security situation, adding that the government intends to ensure that each village has at least one security operative who will serve as an eye for the Nigeria Police.
He decried the spate of vandalism of public facilities, especially transformers, saying it costs the government a lot to replace vandalized transformers while also hindering rural development.
For community policing, you are aware of the Ibom Community Watch. We are raising them to enhance community policing, and we trust that they will continue to do the work by giving you adequate information.
“Currently, we are trying to ensure that there is at least one in every village so that they can help particularly to monitor government facilities in those villages,” he added.
Governor Eno congratulated CP Azare on his promotion and posting to the state, as well as other newly promoted officers, saying, “I am ready to work with you. This we have always done, even in your days as Deputy Commissioner (Operations).
So we look forward to that continuous and symbiotic relationship with the leadership of the Nigeria Police as we continue to serve the Akwa Ibom people.”
Speaking earlier, CP Azare appreciated the Governor for his support for security agencies in the state, saying he is committed to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure that peace and security in the state are maintained.

Governor Umo Eno to Hold Town Hall Meetings Across 10 Federal Constituencies in 2025

Akwa Ibom state Governor, Pastor UMO ENO has said that fromFebruary 2025, the town hall meetings in federal constituencies of the state will begin in earnest.

The Governor was speaking at the State’s Special Inter-Denominational New Year Thanksgiving Covenant Service held in at the Worship center yesterday.

Recall that during the inter-ministerial briefing held in December 2024, the Pastor ENO had hinted that town hall meetings will be prioritized to encourage increased access to community members at the grass root and to stay in tuned with the need of citizens.

Governor UMO ENO at the service asked the community leaders across party lines to meet ahead of the town halls, for adequate planning on how to show up at the grass root engagement.

The Governor while also announcing his plans to empower small and medium enterprises across the ten federal Constituencies of the state urged Entrepreneurs to upload a two minute video of their businesses to a platform that will be launched later this week.

He highlighted that the businesses per a local government will be supported with a grant of five million naira each.

The Governor added that he will be holding three major summits and conferences this year, maintaining that the deputy governor, Sen. AKON EYAKENYI will be heading the committee.
