UCCDA Sets Up Enforcement Team for Motor Parks and Street Trading

The Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) has inaugurated a Special Development Control Enforcement Team (SDCET) to address the challenges facing the capital city.

The team inaugurated by the Chairman of UCCDA, Rt. Hon. ANIETIE EKA, yesterday, is tasked with enforcing development control in line with the Town Planning Laws and Laws of Akwa Ibom State 2022, as amended.

The enforcement team, according to the agency,  will focus on several key areas, including unapproved filling stations, illegal parks and street trading, cemeteries, telecommunication masts and billboards, client service, and estate development.

According to Rt. Hon. EKA, the inauguration of the special team is part of UCCDA‘s efforts to transform Uyo into a smart city, in line with Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda. He noted that the team’s work will focus on addressing challenges such as traffic congestion, compromised safety, and hindered aesthetics, which undermine the city’s potential.

On his part, the Head of Town planning Department, UCCDA, EDIDIONG EDOHO, said the development would bring sanity into the sector while ensuring public safety.

Speaking on behalf of the committee heads, Koffi Ayado, the  Head of Unapproved filling station, Gas Station Outlet Unit assured that the committee will live up-to its expectation.

Governor Umo Eno Appeals for Better Relationships Between Investors and Host Communities

Akwa Ibom State Governor, PASTOR UMO ENO, has urged all investors in the State to ensure robust engagements with different stakeholders within their host communities.

The Governor stated this at a meeting with a delegation of UDUNG UKO stakeholders and the management of AMALGAMATED Oil Company Nigeria Ltd, following a face – off between the company and the community.

He said every investment should positively impact on the host community and any contrary development must not be encouraged.

Governor Eno noted that a Labour and Industrial Committee will be inaugurated to interface between investors, host communities and other stakeholders.

He noted that the peace and security which has become synonymous with the State must be maintained.

The Governor who carefully listened to all the stakeholders including the team lead for the company, PAUL OBI SAN, emphasized on the need for a template of operation that will benefit all, and urged the elders and youths of Udung Uko to embrace the company and support them to succeed for the good of all.

Entertainers in Akwa Ibom Appeal for More Investment in the Sector

A growing group of entertainers from Akwa Ibom State have made an impassioned appeal to the state government, urging for increased support and investment to help foster the growth and development of the local entertainment industry.

 

The entertainers, who are filmmakers, producers and actors, are calling for targeted policies, infrastructure, and financial backing to harness Akwa Ibom’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant artistic community.

 

Speaking with INSPIRATION FM News, a filmmaker working with Chain-star Production, DAVID ITORO, highlighted the challenges entertainers in the state are facing, said the industry is a major contributor to the economy, and that to take the industry to the next level, government’s support of needed.

The entertainment sector in Akwa Ibom, which is home to a rapidly growing pool of musicians, filmmakers, and other creative, has garnered attention in recent years, particularly with the success of the just concluded Ibom Christmas Unplugged 2.0.

Also speaking, an Actor, SUNDAY GENTLE appealed for the establishment of a state-owned entertainment hub, where budding creative can access resources, including recording studios, rehearsal spaces, and venues for showcasing their work.

As the entertainment industry continues to grow in significance, both locally and globally, it remains to be seen whether the Akwa Ibom government will take decisive steps to help foster the industry’s potential, or if the entertainers will be left waiting for the promised changes. Nonetheless, their unified appeal signals the urgent need for action and greater collaboration between the creative community and the state government.

Mkpat Enin Stakeholders Laud EMOIMEE’s Transparency

Indigenes of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area have commended the management committee of the Host Communities Development Trust, popularly known as EMOIMEE, for being transparent in its assignment.

 

Stakeholders gave the commendation during a press briefing organised by the Trust for Mkpat Enin Local Government Area at the Palace of the Paramount Ruler in Mkpat Enin.

 

Chairman on the occasion and Paramount Ruler of the area, EDIDEM AKPAN EKPENE commended the management committee for their transparency, noting that so far, all clan representatives in the committee have consulted properly with stakeholders in their domains and delivered benefits accruing to their communities and people.

 

Other stakeholders who spoke at the event included Akwa Ibom state chairman of the APC,STEPHEN NTUKEKPO, who was represented by Hon. UTITOFON JEREMIAH, Sir UBONG EKEFRE, Obong BONIFACE EKWERE, Rt. Hon. EMEM ALEX as well as OBONGANWAN EKANEM, who also reacted on behalf of Council of Family Heads, youths, women and female youths, among others.

 

They expressed satisfaction over the non-political colouration in the makeup of the EMOIMEE management team, stressing the need for the body to uphold the policy of inclusivity, devoid of socio-political interests and class, in order to meet its objective.

 

On his part, Chairman of EMOIMEE Management Committee for Mkpat Enin, Rev. OBOT EKANEM, thanked the people for their cooperation, appealing for continued support to enable them deliver projects that will be approved by the funders, and assured that all benefits to the area will be evenly distributed and selections all-inclusive.

 

The word EMOIMEE is coined from the first letters of Eket, Mkpat Enin, Onna, Ikot Abasi, Mbo, Esit Eket and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas, being oil bearing areas in Akwa Ibom State.
