AKWA IBOM COVID19 CASES ON A STEADY RISE AS 2ND PHASE OF VACCINATION GETS UNDERWAY

With the increased response from residents as the 2nd phase of the Covid19 vaccination gets underway, there are concerns about the available doses of the Moderna vaccine catering to the growing need of citizens of the state.

 

It might interest you to know that Akwa Ibom’s Covid19 cases is rising and has become a cause for concern.

As at Saturday August 28, Akwa Ibom had recorded 89 new cases. So far there are 3,901 confirmed cases, 3, 148 discharged, 713 active cases, and 40 deaths.

 

The state Primary Health Care Agency has said that it is expecting to receive more vaccines.

Hence in the days ahead the state will have more of its citizens vaccinated to aim at herd immunity to curb the spread of the virus as Nigeria battles the 3rd Wave of Covid19.

The 2nd Phase of Covid19 vaccination commenced in Akwa Ibom State on August  25 with administration of over 60,000 doses of the Moderna Vaccine for citizens yet to be vaccinated.

Inspiration FM News visited designated centers for Vaccination in Uyo Metropolis to confirm sites that had started administering the jabs.

 

There are 55 designated fixed vaccination sites across the state.

In Uyo, the turnout was impressive as some resident claimed to have arrived at 7am and waited to received the jabs which were eventually administered at 10am.

 

Another centre in the metropolis, the University of Uyo teaching Hospital also had a good turnout of interested persons with some showing up to request for the 2nd dose of the AstraZeneca Vaccine.

 

The 63, 336  doses is to serve 31,113 residents for the administration of 2 doses of the moderna vaccines.

Akwa Ibom ‘s State Immunization officer , Dr IME UDOH in a chat with Inspiration FM news said the residents who access the Moderna vaccines will get their 2nd doses in 4 weeks time.
