Uyo Local Government Chairman Bags LOGMA Award, Wins Car as Star Prize

UYO LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN EMERGES NATIONAL BEST CHAIRMAN, WINS A CAR AS STAR PRIZE

Following the giant strides recorded in his service to the people of Uyo Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo has been declared the winner of the 2021 Local Government Merit Award (LOGMA) with a star prize of a 10-seater bus.

Dr. Udo emerged the National Best Local Government Chairman in RURAL WATER SUPPLY and the award was conferred on him at a well-attained event held at the Merit House, Maitama, Abuja on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

Speaking at the event, the Uyo helmsman advocated for the review of the revenue sharing formula by the Federal Government to be in favour of the Local Government who he noted was involved in the execution of projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the people at the grassroots.

According to him, the upward review of the revenue sharing formula will enable the Local Government administrators to provide the needed dividends of democracy to the people.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Dr. Udo praised HE Mr. Udom Emmanuel for the huge support to the local government councils in Akwa Ibom State, adding that the award would encourage him to do more for the people of Uyo in the remaining years of his administration as the Chairman.

Earlier in his remarks, the National Coordinator of LOGMA, Chief Bayode Ojo, said the awards are packaged to reward excellence in grassroots governance.

Three out of the 28 most performing local government chairmen in Nigeria were from Akwa Ibom State. The other two awardees were the Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Hon. Nyakno Okoibu and the Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Dr. Sylvester Attah.

Recall that Dr. Udo had within his first 100 Days in office changed the narrative in local government administration with the construction of a 24-room with 3 open registries, 9 conveniences, 6 exit points with proper landscaping office accommodation as the new Administrative Block for staff of Uyo Local Government Council, christened “UDOM EMMANUEL ADMINISTRATIVE BLOCK”.

Also within the period, Dr. Udo ensured the procurement and installation of a 300KVA Transformer, grading of rural roads, provision of water supply at Uyo shopping complex, and Health center at Wellington Bassey Way.

Other achievements of the chairman included; provision of communication gadgets for the mobilisation unit of the Primary Health Center, installation of renewable energy sources within the council secretariat, renovation of the council multi-purpose hall, building of platform at Akpan Andem market, as well as a review of some development Bye-laws in Uyo Local Government Area.

The delegation from Uyo Local Government that accompanied the Executive Chairman for the awards ceremony in Abuja comprised the wife of the Chairman, Mrs. Akaninyene Uwemedimo; Vice Chairman, Pst. Sylvia Ekong; Secretary of Council, Mr. Ubong Udofia; the Leader of Uyo Legislative Council, Hon. Ubong Effiong; the Dean of Supervisors, Mr. Linus Effiong; PDP representative, Uyo Chapter, Hon. Victor Raphael, and the SA, Media to the Executive Chairman, Mrs. Itoro-Etas Iniobong.

Akwa Ibom Governor Inaugurates GBV State Management Committee

Governor Udom Emmanuel has inaugurated the Akwa Ibom State Gender-Based Violence Management Committee.
The Committee is headed by his wife, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, and has Barr. Emem Ette of the Ministry of Justice as Secretary.
Performing the inauguration at the EXCO Chambers of Government House, Uyo, earlier today Wednesday, September 15, 2021 the Governor said the setting up of the Committee is a follow up to the State Gender Policy which prohibits all forms of violence against persons in the state.

He added that the objective of the Committee is to make recommendations and as well proffer a synchronised approach towards ending all forms of gender-based violence in the state.
Governor Emmanuel added that to restore sanity in the state, the Committee must work towards the total elimination of gender-based violence.
He warned that henceforth anyone found culpable in abusing or raping any gender (male and female) would be dealt with the full wrath of the law.


While fielding questions from Government House reporters, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel speaking on behalf of the Committee, expressed delight at the inauguration of the Committee, saying this would further help in the fight against the scourge.
“We are going out en-masse to fight this crime to an end. This is another milestone in this course and with the enabling law, we will achieve much success collectively,” First Lady Martha quipped.
Other members of the 14-member committee are Dr. Ini Adiakpan (Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare), Mrs. Eno Jerome ( Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare), Barr ( Mrs) Mfon Edemekong (Ministry of Justice ), and Mrs. Idongesit Udo ( Ministry Health).

Also making the Committee are: Mrs. Emem George ( Office of the Accountant General), Mrs. Kokomma Sabbath ( Ministry of Education ), Mrs. Blessing Udofa ( Multilateral and Donor Agencies), Supol Nseobong Umoh ( Police Gender Desk Officer), Dr. Nsekpong Udoh ( CSO ), Mrs. Ime Ephraim Inyang ( CSO), Obonganwan Patricia Essienobot ( CSO ) and Mr. James Edet ( Ministry of Information).

Governor Udom Emmanuel signs Akwa Ibom Anti- Grazing Bill Into Law

The Governor of Akwa lbom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel has signed into Law a Bill to Prohibit Open Rearing and Grazing of Livestock and Provide for the Establishment of Ranches in Akwa Ibom State.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Aniekan Bassey with the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Uko Udom (SAN), presented the Bill for signing today at the State Executive Chambers, in the Governor’s Office, Uyo.

The Governor after signing the Bill into Law stated that the new Law is no respecter of persons irrespective of status or caliber.

He instructed relevant authorities of government to ensure that the bill is implemented and enforced to the letter with strict compliance, stressing that culprits must be brought to book accordingly.

The new Law will promote modern techniques in animal husbandry, prevent the destruction of farms by wandering Cattle, while reducing clashes and killings between herders and farmers in the state.

It will also promote international best practices in livestock administration, regulation and control in the state, among other things.

Recall that the House at yesterday’s plenary passed the Bill into Law, with Tuesday, September 14, 2021 as its commencement date and the Speaker, Rt Hon. Aniekan Bassey, immediately directed the Clerk of the House, Mrs Mandu Umoren to communicate the decision of the House to the the Governor for his assent.

Also at the Executive Chambers, the Speaker who was accompanied by Rt Hon Udo Kierian Akpan, the Leader of the House and Mrs Mandu Umoren, Clerk of the Assembly to the signing ceremony witnessed the inauguration of two Committees by the Governor.

The Committees are the Akwa Ibom State Gender Based Violence Management Committee, chaired by the First Lady, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel and Akwa Ibom State Road Safety Management Committee, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo

Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board Chairman Charges Schools Ahead of New Session

The Executive Chairman, State Secondary Education Board, Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon, has directed all principals to ensure that teachers begin teaching immediately as the 2021/2022 academic year begins.

The Board Chairman gave this directive yesterday at Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Okubo Offot while embarking on an on-the-spot monitoring of resumption of schools and the conduct of the Senior Schools Certificate Examinations.

The Chairman expressed displeasure at the condition of the school environment which was very unkempt and called on all principals of schools to deploy all possible measures to get their school premises conducive for learning within days.

At Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Oku Ikono, Dr. Ebong Okon charged candidates to be of their best behaviour and dress like students even though they are writing their exit examinations.

She also led the team to Community Secondary Commercial School, Four Towns, where she expressed satisfaction at the smooth running of the Senior Certificate Examination and the orderly conduct of the candidates.

She commended the candidates for observing the Covid-19 safety protocol by being properly kitted with their facemasks and urged the candidates to shun all forms of examination malpractices and be independent in all their examinations.

Another Monitoring Team of the Board led by the Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Joseph Eton, visited Secondary School, Etoi, Christian Secondary Commercial School, and Uyo High School, Uyo where the examination atmosphere was peaceful and teachers and students also resumed for the new academic session.

The Board directed principals to query staff who were absent from school without genuine reasons.
The Teams comprised all the Board Members, the Acting Permanent Secretary, all the Directors and some senior staff of the Board.
