2023: Onofiok Luke Switches Support Towards Umo Eno’s Emergence in Akwa Ibom

The member representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency in the house of Representatives, Barr. Onofiok, has switched his allegiance towards the emergence of the PDP Governorship Candidate for 2023, Pastor Umo Eno.

Onofiok Luke made this known at a reconciliatory meeting held at the palace of Oku Ibom Ibibio and Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk,

the Former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, who was also a Governorship Aspirant in the same race, but withdrew from the PDP primaries said, “I have to honour my people, my fathers – the traditional rulers, the PDP which gave me a platform to serve the people. I will work for the emergence of Pastor Umo Eno as Governor of Akwa Ibom State come 2023.”

In his response, Pastor Umo Eno, thanked Barr. Luke and promised to work with him with an open heart.” I am your senior in age but God has raised you as my senior in politics. I will never take this for granted. Help me reassure your teeming supporters that your people shall be my people.”

The Oku Ibom Ibibio, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk appreciated all parties involved and charged them to work together in the interest of peace and overall development of Akwa Ibom people.

“Go and work together as great sons of Akwa Ibom and get the victory.” Ntenyin Solomon advised.

Youth Alive Foundation Through SAVE Project Organizes Policy Dialogue on Violence Against persons (prohibition) Law Implementation in Akwa Ibom.

Prioritizing the implementation of legislations critical to the fight against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) is what the SAVE Project : Safeguarding Against Violence and Exploitation of Women and Girls Coalition is keen about.

The SAVE Project anchored by the Youth Alive Foundation therefore organised a Policy Dialogue during the week with key players to talk about the possible barriers to the implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition – VAPP Law.

The target is strengthening of the legislation to end Violence against Women and Girls.

Akwa Ibom Sexual and Gender Based violence Committee Pushes for Implementation of Specific Violence Against persons (prohibition) Law Provisions Through Social Sacntions.

Secretary of Akwa Ibom’s Sexual and Gender Based violence Committee, BARR EMEM ETTE has affirmed that efforts are being made to mitigate the burden of overflowing cases in the law courts with the adoption of viable alternatives.
BARR EMEM ETTE was speaking at a Policy Dialogue organised by the Youth Alive Foundation (YAF) an organisation responsible for the execution of the SAVE Project.

The SAVE PROJECT targets the strengthening of legislation to end Violence against Women and Girls.
The SGBV Committee Secretary specified that allowing the traditional institutions to handle some offenses on the VAPP law is a realistic approach to tackling the barriers to speedy justice and efficient implementation of the VAPP LAW.

According to her interventions have been reinforced with the help of the VAPP LAW with over 250 SGBV survivors receiving empowerment in different forms.
BARR EMEM ETTE therefore urged every citizen of the state to be involved in the fight against the menace.

Association of Women Living with HIV and Aids (ASWHAN) Plead With Governor Udom to Sign Anti-Stigmatization and Discrimination Bill into Law

Women living with HIV (WLHIV) under the aegis of Association of Women Living with HIV and Aids (ASWHAN) have intensified their plea to the state Governor UDOM EMMANUEL for assent to the Anti –stigmatization and Discrimination Bill for persons who are HIV positive.

The bill was passed by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on September 30th 2021, and 10 months after, the vulnerable persons mostly affected amongst other stakeholders in the HIV response space await the progression of the bill into a Law which will help enhance the interventions.
