Senate President Calls for Improvement in the Health Sector

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has appealed for urgent reforms in the nation’s healthcare system.

The Senate President declared that quality medical care is not a privilege but a fundamental right of every Nigerian.

Akpabio emphasized this while speaking at the Public Hearing of the Senate Committee on Health (Secondary & Tertiary) on Thursday.

He reiterated the Senate’s commitment to ensuring accessible and efficient healthcare services for all citizens.

Akwa Ibom State Government Procures Operational Vehicles for Judiciary, Legislature

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has provided operational vehicles for members of the State House of Assembly, as well as Judges in the State to enhance their services to Akwa Ibom people.
Presenting the vehicles, the Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, said the back up vehicles for law makers were basically to enhance mobility for their support staff and security.
He commended the legislators and the judges for their commitment to serving the State in their respective capacities and assured of continuous robust collaboration among the arms of government.
Our Government house correspondent, Adebayo Samuel confirmed that while the 26 legislators got Utility Vehicles to back up their SUVs, the Judges got SUVs.
In furtherance of his welfare package for judges in the State, the Governor will next month flag-off construction of the Judges Quarters, to provide a full accommodation of about 40 housing units for judges in the State.
The State had acquired a new estate for only judges with plans to provide them with a convenient place of living with recreational facilities, and other amenities, to enable them deliver justice and efficiently perform their constitutional duties as the last hope of the common man.
Responding on behalf of the State Assembly members, the House Leader, Hon Sunday Johnny appreciated the Governor for extending his benevolence to members of the State House of Assembly, and assured that they will continue to play their part to ensure healthy collaboration among the three arms of government.
Also responding, the acting Chief Registrar of Akwa Ibom State Judiciary, Affiong Usimkah Esq, who received the vehicles on behalf of the judges, appreciated the Governor over the gesture and assured that the judiciary will continue to play its part to maintain peace in the State.

Police in Akwa Ibom Rescue Kidnapped Victim, Recover Stolen Vehicle

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered his stolen vehicle during a tactical operation in Ikot Ekpene.

According to the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSPTIMFON JOHN, the operation occurred on February 13, 2025 after a man was kidnapped along Okop-Eto Road and taken to an unknown destination by the kidnappers.

She explained that the operatives of the command, who swung into action, engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel, and were overwhelmed by superior firepower fled with severe gunshot injuries, leaving the victim unharmed, and has since been reunited with his family.

However, the PPRO said while the police are working to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects, investigations are ongoing to recover weapons used in the crime and bring those responsible to justice.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba MOHAMMED AZARE, commended the officers for their swift response and assured residents that the Command remains resolute in its fight against criminal elements in the state. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

Governor Umo Eno Directs Construction of 5km Road in Ikono Clan

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO has directed the construction of a 5-kilometer road in Ikono Clan, Uyo Local Government Area, as part of his administration’s rural development efforts.

This announcement was made during the funeral service of late Obong CYRIL MATHEW EKIKO, a former Member of the Cross River State House of Assembly.

Governor Eno explained that the road construction was a promise he made to the late Obong Ekiko during his political campaign. He also acknowledged that the area has been fully represented in the new State Executive Council, which is set to be inaugurated.

The Governor commended the late Obong Ekiko for standing firm in support of truth and condoled with the family on their loss. He urged the family to take solace in the fact that the deceased had laid a solid foundation of growth and intellectual curiosity.

A son of the deceased,ENGR. MBONG EKIKO,  expressed appreciation to the Governor for leading the State delegation to bid farewell to his late father. He noted that the Governor’s gesture had culminated in his community benefiting from the rural development drive of the present administration.
