The Immediate past President General of Oron Union and SSA to the Governor of Akwa Ibom state on Small, Medium Enterprises, (SMEs), Chief Mrs Janet Amba has resigned her appointment.

In a letter dated June 7, 2022, addressed to Governor Udom Emmanuel,  she cited personal reasons for her resignation, thanking the Governor for the opportunity to serve, with assurances of her deepest esteem.

Sources within Government circles claim she was dissatisfied at being overlooked for the position of running mate to the Governor’s anointed candidate, Pastor Umo Eno. Senator Akon Eyankenyi was chosen instead.

Inibehe Effiong Threatens Legal Action Against Akwa Ibom State Government Over Land Grabbing Attempt.

Human rights lawyer and activist, Barr. Inibehe Effiong, has threatened to sue the Akwa Ibom State government over an alleged attempt to grab the property of his clients.

The state government had, in a Newspaper publication in June 2021, announced via Akwa Ibom State notice no:002/2021, a revocation of the right of occupancy in land No:1—169, block ‘G’ of government residential estate (extract), Anua Offot/Eniong Offot/Use Offor/Ifa Ikot Okpon, Etoi, Uyo Local Government Area with a survey plan no: AK/U 175.

The publication also stated that the “revocation” was for “public purposes absolutely and particularly for rationalisation.”

But in a letter addressed to the state government on behalf of his clients; Kufre Akpan, Itoro Essang, Henry Ambros Ekpenyong, Aniebiet Henry Ambros, and Aniebiet Effiong Robert, who are bonafide owners of the land, Effiong described the publication as legally “untenable”.

According to him neither the state nor the Federal Government by law has the right to forcefully take over a piece of land belonging to any citizen without payment of compensation.

He added that the attempt to “grab plots of land belonging to our clients in the guise of revocation for “public purposes and rationalisation” is a slap on the face of the Nigerian Constitution” adding that his clients have never been notified.

He, therefore, demanded that the state government should confirm in writing, within 7 days of receiving his letter, that it will not encroach on any land belonging to the clients whatsoever, adding that he would not hesitate to institute legal action if the state government failed to so.

The letter reads in part, “Our clients are bewildered by the purported revocation which in essence, declares audaciously, the government’s intention to grab plots of land belonging to our clients and other citizens and rationalize (allocate) them to some political cronies and ‘Senior government officials’ as alluded to by Governor Udom Emmanuel on March 1, 2022, while flagging-off the development of the said Emily Haven Residential Estate.

“We are by this letter notifying the Akwa Ibom State Government, that the publication in the Pioneer Newspaper is legally untenable.

“Our clients entirely reject the contents of the publication and are not willing to cede an inch of their lawfully acquired plots to anyone for numerous reasons, including the following that ‘The government has neither paid compensation to our clients nor initiated any credible and verifiable process for payment of compensation’.

“We are impelled to draw your attention to Section 44 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), which makes payment of compensation a condition precedent to compulsory acquisition of land by the government.

“The illegal attempt to grab plots of land belonging to our clients in the guise of revocation for ‘public purposes and rationalisation’ is a slap on the face of the Nigerian Constitution.

“By law, the federal and state government have no power to forcefully take over, revoke, appropriate or acquire land belonging to private citizens for the purpose of rationalisation or reallocation to other citizens. Such action is brazenly illegal, reckless, immoral, and unconstitutional

“Take notice that we shall institute legal proceedings against the state government if we do not receive your confirmation as demanded.”

The Current PDP Governorship Candidate; Pastor Umo Eno was the Commissioner in charge of the Lands ministry when the Government laid claims to the said land.

Nsit Ibom Stakeholders Petition APC Over Assembly Primaries

ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) NSIT IBOM CHAPTER

Afaha Offiong
Nsit Ibom Local Government Area
Akwa Ibom State
27th May, 2022.

The State Chairman
All Progressives Congress (APC)
6, Ekpo Obot Street, Uyo
Akwa Ibom State.

Sir,
PETITION ON THE DISTORTION OF ZONING/ROTATION OF HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SEAT IN NSIT IBOM.
PREAMBLE:
Nsit Ibom Local Government Area is made up of two Court Areas, namely Asang and Mbiaso. For peace, mutual coexistence, and oneness, our forbears decided to uphold zoning and rotation of chairmanship and House of Assembly seats between the two clans or court areas since from the beginning of the present political dispensation in 1999. This rotation principle has been respected by all the leading political parties since then.
HISTORY OF ZONING AND ROTATION PRINCIPLE IN NSIT IBOM
1. 1999 – 2003 – House of Assembly – Asang
Council Chairman – Mbiaso
2. 2003 – 2007 – House of Assembly – Mbiaso
Council Chairman – Asang
3. 2007 – 2015 (8 years) – House of Assembly – Asang
Council Chairman – Mbiaso
4. 2015 – 2023 (8 years) – House of Assembly – Mbiaso
Council Chairman – Asang
HOW PARTIES FIELDED CANDIDATES FOR HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SEAT IN THE PAST EIGHT (😎 YEARS
Because of the existing zoning/rotation principle in Nsit Ibom, this is how the two leading political parties, PDP and APC fielded candidates for House of Assembly seat in Nsit Ibom in the last 8 years.
1. 2015 – 2019 – APC – Mr. Ime Inyang and PDP – Mrs. Mfon Ekong – all from Mbiaso Court Area.
2. 2019 – 2023 – APC – Mr. Imaikop Enwang and PDP – Hon. Ifiok Udoh – all from Mbiaso Court Area.
It must be noted that in the above mentioned periods, no Asang Court Area person bought nomination form and stood election in both the PDP and the APC.
HOW PARTIES SHOULD FIELD CANDIDATES FOR HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SEAT IN 2023
In view of the zoning/rotation principle which has come to stay and which parties respect, in 2023, the reverse of what happened in 2015 – 2023 should take place. This means that all the leading political parties vis-à-vis PDP and APC should field their candidates from ASANG COURT AREA. In fact, no Mbiaso person should dare even buy form and stand nomination for House of Assembly seat this time around. SO FAR, THE PDP HAS DEMONSTRATED RESPECT AND HAS HONORED THIS ZONING PRINCIPLE AND HAS PICKED HON. ERIC AKPAN FROM ASANG COURT AREA AS HER CANDIDATE. The APC as a political party with moral and ethical principles must follow suit and pick her candidate from ASANG COURT AREA.
SUGGESTION/CONCLUSION:
In view of the above, we the under listed committed stakeholders and elders of the party in Nsit Ibom recommend that you pick MR. THOMAS EFFIONG THOMAS WHO IS FROM ASANG COURT AREA TO FLY THE PARTY FLAG IN THE FORTHCOMING 2023 HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTION.
Please note that the above mentioned person has been very supportive of your leadership of the party.
Thank you.
