Association of Women Living with HIV/AIDS (ASWHAN) Re-echoes Call to End Stigmatization.

A magistrate court sitting in Uyo has ordered the State Police Prosecutor to hand over the case on defamation of character and Assault file involving MARGRET vs ANIEFIOK to Attorney General of Akwa State within 14 days.

The Defendant, Mr. ANIEFIOK on July 28, 2022 was accused of assault and making derogatory comments on his former fiancée, Miss MARGRET, while posting on Face-book, where he revealed that she had contracted HIV, with the aim of ridiculing her and thereby subjecting her to psycho-social trauma.

At a resume hearing the new State Prosecutor for the plaintiff, appealed that the case file be handed over to him by the Police to enable him study the file and cross examine the client for further hearing which comes up on September 29, 2022.

In an interview with Inspiration FM, the programme manager for Association of women living with HIV/AIDS (ASWHAN), GLORY ALBAN, reiterated that there is need for the anti-stigmatization bill to be enacted into law to serve as deterrence to persons that wish to same others over their health status.

Members of the Ini Local Government Legislative Council say they stand by their impeachment of the local government chairman, Hon ISREAL IDAISIN and the house leader Hon IKPE IKPE.

Recall that 7 members of the house had signed a resolution at Tuesday’s plenary to impeach the chairman for alleged gross misconduct, misappropriation of funds, non-payment of entitlements to councilors, abdication of duty, flouting of the Local Government Administration Law 2017, amongst other accusations.

Akwa Ibom State Police Command Apprehend Fake Police Selling Indian Hemp

Men of the Anti-cultism Squad of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested one Vincent Sampson Enuneku, a 43 year- old man from Ndokwa Local Government Area of Delta State for impersonating a police officer.

The suspect was also said to be in possession of a large substance, suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, the suspect was arrested in Uyo while attempting to use his fake Assistant Superintendent of Police Identity card to prevent the arrest of a wanted criminal.

The police spokesman said investigation revealed that the suspect uses the ID card to pass through checkpoints freely while transporting Indian hemp and other prohibited items into the state from other places.

The suspect, the PPRO said, is also good at using the ID card to extort and harass innocent members of the public, thereby bringing the image of the Police Force to disrepute.
Exhibits recovered from the suspect include fake Police ID Card and a large quantity of Indian hemp.
