Governor Umo Eno to Commission Secretatiat Road in Orue Offong Oruko

Governor UMO ENO will today, Monday, October 28, 2024 commission the 2.9 kilometre Secretariat Road, Okuko two-event Road with spur in UrueOffong/Oruko Local Government Area.

The exercise forms part of the Governor’s plans to commission a total of eight road projects, 62 compassionate homes, a model primary health center and a water reticulation project across the state in the next one month.

The UrueOffong/OrukoSecretariat Road project, executed by Bulletin Construction Company Nigeria Limited under the supervision of the State Ministry of Works and Fire Service, will serve as a vital access route connecting three villages, including Urueffong, UkukoUtuku and Ibotongin the Area, bringing a new level of connectivity and accessibility to the area.

Thrilling over the important infrastructural milestone in the area, some of the Residents said the road signifies not only improved access but also hope for economic growth.

Governor UMO ENO will also commission as well as hand over Arise Companionate Home in UrueOffong/Orukoand MboLocal Government Areas tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

Akwa Ibom State Government Set to Launch Ambulance System

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has stated that the State will soon launch an independent Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System to complement the Primary Health Care services, and the recently-launched State Health Insurance Scheme.
The Governor made this known, when he took delivery of the initial six, of ten fully- equipped ambulances, at the Government House, Uyo.
Speaking with Government House correspondents while inspecting the ambulances, Gov. Eno said the gesture was a reaffirmation of his commitment to enhance healthcare services in the State, in line with the aspirations of his administration’s ARISE Agenda.
According to the Governor, the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (AKISEMSAS) will run as a stand alone system, run by qualified personnel, but complementary to the Health Insurance Scheme and other components of the State’s Health Sector, to ensure swift response to medical emergencies, as is obtainable in some countries across the world.
He directed that health workers be selected and trained on requisite skills to ensure optimum service delivery on the emergency services.
He commended the special features of the ambulances and reaffirmed9 his administration’s commitment to support good ventures that would serve the interest of Akwa Ibom people in fulfillment of his campaign promises.
“We want to create an Independent ambulance service system, a stand alone service, headed by qualified personnel. The Ambulance service is special, and they can run independently.
“If we have this ambulance system working, our health insurance working, our hospitals working and we have the medical team working, pay the medical Doctors well and make them happy, we should be able to revive our health sector as part of our ARISE Agenda,” Governor Eno stated.

Akwa Ibom Petroleum Monitoring Committee Begins Interface with Stakeholders

In its avowed commitment to ensure availability of petroleum products in the State, the Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee (PPMC)has been engaging with various stakeholders in the sector.

In a recent familiarization tour, the committee met with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in Eket and Virgin Forest Energy in Mbo to discuss potential collaborations.

The EKPO-led committee thanked NMDPRA for a warm reception and called for a partnership to address key challenges in the petroleum sector, including unavailability, diversion, adulteration, and under-dispensing

NMDPRA’s State Coordinator, IKECHUKWU ESEKA, welcomed the partnership and attributed product shortages to deliberate acts by Petroleum stakeholders.  He said the government initiative to establish petroleum depots in the state was laudable. He advised the committee to establish a standard laboratory to test the authenticity of petroleum derivatives.

Ekpo commended Virgin Forest Energy for building a tank farm in Mbo, which has added value to the community, and solicited partnerships to sell subsidized petroleum products to marketers.

 The Facility Manager VICTOR OMOTE appreciated the committee’s visit and highlighted challenges, including N2 billion spent on dredging due to low water capacity.

In a subsequent meeting with IPMAN, key stakeholders in the sector, EKPO sued for cooperation in curbing sector irregularities. He also reiterated the committee’s zero-tolerance policy for illegality, warning that lifting unauthorized products will not be tolerated.

In his remarks, IPMAN’s national ex-officio,Sir MICHAEL UDOFIA,praised the Governor for establishing the petroleum task force, which has significantly reduced harassment from security operatives and brought peace to the sector.

Addressing the harassment claims by marketers, ACP Kenneth Egbo, assured fair treatment and investigation of these claims.

Akwa Ibom Transport Task Force to Commence Operations On October 28

Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Transport is informing members of the public, particularly transport operators, that the task force on activities of the motor parks and touting within Uyo capital city shall commence operations on Monday, 28thOctober 2024.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Transport, Rt. Hon. ORMAN ESIN, therefore directs all operators of unauthorized motor parks or loading points to relocate to government approved motor parks.

The statement further advised members of the public travelling within and outside the state to board vehicles at government approved motor parks and terminals for their own safety and best interest.

The Ministry also directed motorcyclists operating on major roads and one-way within Uyo metropolis to desist forthwith.

Accordingly, all transport unions and stakeholders in the state are advised to adhere strictly to the directive as defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted in line with relevant laws.
