PRESIDENT BUHARI TO RECEIVE MARIA ESPINOSA OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI is expected to receive the President of the United Nations General Assembly, MARIA ESPINOSA, who is paying a one-day official visit to Nigeria on Monday.

 

Ms ESPINOSA’s Spokesperson, MONICA GRAVLEY, announced this at a media briefing at the UN headquarters in New York.

 

According to her, the PGA’s visit to Nigeria is part of her eight-day official trip to Central and West Africa.

NIGERIA ARMY EXPANDS EXERCISE TO TACKLE BANDITRY IN THE COUNTRY

The Nigerian Army says it will re-organise the ongoing exercise Harbin Kunama III and expand its mandate following resurgence of banditry in the North West.

 

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TUKUR BURATAI, who announced this at a news conference in Abujasaid that though Harbin Kunam III, launched on April 1, had achieved a lot in Zamfara, there was resurgence of bandits’ activities in contiguous states.

 

 

The Army chief was represented by Major General LAMIDI ADEOSUN, Chief of Training and Operations.

Manchester United defender ERIC BAILLY will miss the final two games of the season and this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations after sustaining a knee injury in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

The Ivory Coast international injured his medial ligament in a collision with Chelsea midfielder MATEO KOVACIC during the second half.

The Africa Cup of Nations is from 21 June to 19 July in Egypt.

Ivory Coast are one of the favourites for the tournament and have been drawn in a group that also contains Morocco, South Africa and Namibia

LAGOS ASSEMBLY PASSES 2019 APPROPRIATION BILL INTO LAW

The Lagos state House of Assembly passed the state’s 2019 appropriation bill of 873.532 billion Naira for 2019, barely a month to the end of Governor AKINWUNMI AMBODE’stenure.

 The approval came more than 80 days after the governor presented the appropriation bill of 852.316 billion Naira on February 5, to the state assembly.

The passage followed the adoption of the report and recommendations of the house committee on budget and economic planning, headed by GBOLAHAN YISHAWU, APC-Eti-Osa II.

The house approved 393,841,387,020 Naira from the consolidated revenue fund for recurrent expenditure and 479,691,073,705 Naira from development revenue fund for capital expenditure.
