Obono-Obla Fingers Osinbajo In His Ordeal With ICPC

the suspended Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property, OKOI OBONO-OBLA, has said the planned investigation by Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) would not be fair.

According to him, this is due to the closeness of the commission’s Chairman, Professor BOLAJI OWANSANOYE, to Vice-President YEMI OSINBAJO.

OBONO-OBLA stated this in a suit he filed to challenge the said probe for alleged certificate forgery and extortion.

Through his lawyer, Mr. FARUK KHAMAGAM, OBONO-OBLA also filed an ex parte application seeking an urgent hearing of the suit.

As sighted in the court papers, the plaintiff alleged that part of the reasons he was suspended as the SPIP chairman was that he was not taking instructions from OSINBAJO.

OBONO-OBLA also linked his travails to the investigations he launched against influential persons and organisations.

House Of Reps Examine FG’s Abandoned Project

The House of Representatives has begun investigations into  the Federal Government’s projects, abandoned since 1999 by the Federal Government.

An ad hoc committee set up by the House to probe abandoned projects in the communications sector, including the Closed Circuit Television camera projects, held its inaugural meeting in Abuja.

Chairman of the committee, Mr CHUKWUMA UMEOJI, said the parliament would prosecute those behind the failed projects.

UMEOJI noted that Ministries, departments, agencies, parastatals, commissions and boards have awarded contracts for the execution of several capital projects since the nation returned to democratic rule in 1999.

The lawmaker said they would invite all stakeholders and call for memorandums to help them in their investigations. A member of the committee, Mr ADIGUN ADEKUNLE, said they had compiled the list of the abandoned projects.

Ngige Promise Speedy Implementation Of New Minimum Wage

The re-appointed Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr CHRIS NGIGE, has pledged to promote industrial harmony, and speed up processes for the implementation of the new minimum wage.

NGIGE, while addressing newsmen at his residence after his inauguration as minister by President MUHAMMADU BUHARI on Wednesday in Abuja, said he was a man of his words.

He said he would follow due process to put smiles on the faces of Nigerian workers.

NGIGE pledged to resolve all impending disputes in the sector, noting that his track record had reflected in his efforts in the last three and a half years.

Recall that there was a face-off between the minister and NLC over the constitution of the board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) shortly before NGIGE exited the ministry in May.

NIGERIAN GOVERNORS FORUM CALLS FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF SPECIAL AGRIC ZONES TO ATTRACT $4BILLION DOLLARS INVESTMENTS

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has said that the establishment of Special Agro-processing Zones (SAPZs) in Nigeria has the potential of attracting between one to four billion dollars investments into the country.

The Chairman of the forum and Governor of Ekiti, KAYODE FAYEMI, disclosed this while briefing newsmen after the forum’s 4th meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.

Mr. FAYEMI explained that all states were potential beneficiaries of the SAPZs initiative, which would bring together the farming and the processing community.

They also agreed to do everything to ensure effective polio immunisation in their states to prevent a re-emergence of the disease in the country to ensure that Nigeria is certified polio-free by the World Health Organisation.

The meeting comes hours after President MUHAMMADU BUHARI inaugurated his cabinet and assigned portfolio to ministers at a ceremony, which was attended by governors and other top government officials.

The new ministers, who pledged to deliver on their assigned mandates, also sought co-operation from workers to meet their targets, top of which is budget submission.
