State executives of the University of Jos Alumni Association, Akwa Ibom State Chapter has urged all Akwa Ibom indigenes and residents to continue to pray for peace in Plateau State.

Chairman, University of Jos Alumni, Akwa Ibom state chapter, Dr. NDIFREKE OTUEKONG ATAIDE, via a statement commended Governor UDOM EMMANUEL for his timely intervention in evacuating Akwa Ibom students and corps members from Jos, Plateau state.

He stated that the evacuation became necessary following the precarious insecurity situation in Jos and subsequent closure of the institution.

PERSONS CLAIMING TO MEMBERS OF LABOUR MARKET NOT RECOGNISED BY GOVERNMENT – COMMISSIONER FOR LABOUR AND MANPOWER PLANNING, SUNNY IBUOUT

Akwa Ibom state government says it does not recognize individuals who make up the labour markets, which are found at strategic locations in Uyo, the state capital.

Labour market, as it is popularly called is made up of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled workers in different fields, who sit-in-wait for clients to pick them up for menial jobs at building and other projects sites.

 

Some of the workers in an interview with Inspiration FM had called on the state government to carry them along and incorporate them into some ongoing projects in the state.

However, in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, UHUOTU OMILABU, the Akwa state commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Pastor SUNNY IBUOT said the pleas of the group may not be met as they are not members of any trade union.

 

Mr IBUOT  however noted that in a bid to reduce the unemployment rate in the state, government will train 100 youths in software development, as the world currently revolves around ICT.

He emphasized that the programme which will kick off before the end of the year, will capture bright minds who already have some basic knowledge of the skill and are willing to increase capacity.

AKWA IBOM STATE’S HEALTH INDUSTRY INTENSITY EFFORTS FOR HIV ANTI STIGMA BILL, HEALTH INSURANCE AGENCY LAW.

Stakeholders in the health industry gathered during the week at the state house of assembly for a public hearing on the Akwa Ibom state Anti stigma and discrimination of persons living with HIV/AIDS Bill 2020.

Deliberations were also made to establish the bill for a law for establishing a health Insurance agency in The state.

At the public hearing the chairman house committee on health matters Honorable UDEME OTONG said that the bills are critical to improving citizens access to health care, while also helping to reduce out of pocket spending for health services.

Akwa Ibom’s commissioner for health Professor AUGUSTINE UMOH also speaking at the hearing expressed concern that the state was lagging behind with the passage of a health insurance bill.

The Stakeholders comprised Project Manager AKSACA, DR ARTHUR IGBEMI, NACA South South Coordinator, Dr UDUAK DANIEL, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Multi Lateral Agencies, Ndiana ABASI UDOM, Implementing Partners in the state, amongst others. 

They had key contributions and corrections to make on the bills which have passed first and second reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly.

AKSACA AMPLIFIES SENSITIZATION ON HIV PREVENTION FOR ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN AKWA IBOM.

A key approach of the HIV response in Nigeria is the focus on Prevention, to further reduce the infection rate.

The HIV prevention drive in Akwa Ibom state is reflected through initiatives by the State Agency for the Control of AIDS -AKSACA, one of which is the heightened sensitization among Adolescents and Young People – AYPs.

 

Adolescents and Young People are contributing largely to the HIV incidence in the state, as Akwa Ibom with HIV prevalence rate of 5.6% tops the chart in the South-South. This means over 170,000 persons are living with the virus in the state.

 

The Project Manager, AK-SACA, DR. ARTHUR IGBEMI  in an interview with Inspiration FM’s Health Correspondent IMA DEM says for over 10 years, the HIV incidence amongst the young  population; ages  10 -24 was not declining.

Dr IGBEMI said as a result of this it has become imperative to intensify awareness on prevention of the Virus and have AYPs who are infected with the virus, lead the campaign.
