CAS Sues For Civil Participation On Security

the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal SADIQUE ABUBAKAR has said efforts of security operatives at tackling insecurity will achieve better results if Nigerians partner with the military.

This, he said, could be done by providing timely information about the environment and neighbourhood to the security operatives.

ABUBAKAR stated this while addressing newsmen after delivering the second Distinguished Personality Lecture at the International Conference Centre of the University of Ibadan (UI), in the Oyo State capital.

The Air Chief noted that despite the changing nature of insurgency, the air force under his watch will brace to confront threats with the ultimate aim of dealing decisively with terrorists and their nefarious activities.

The event, with the theme: Roles of the Nigerian Air Force in Internal Security Operations in Nigeria, was organised by the university’s Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies (IPSS).

The Director of IPSS, Professor TAJUDEEN AKANJI, insisted that given the changing nature of terrorism, the Nigeria Air force must brace up for other looming threats.

UI Vice Chancellor, Professor IDOWU OLAYINKA, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor KAYODE ADEBOWALE, said the lecture was part of the institution’s efforts to contribute positively to national security by bringing stakeholders to brainstorm and proffer solutions to issues and the challenges facing the country.

16 Million Children Are Out Of School – Adamu Adamu

a former Minister of Education, ADAMU ADAMU, has said that the number of out-of-school children in the country now stands at over 16 million.

ADAMU, who is also one of the 43 ministerial nominees submitted to the senate for screening and confirmation stated this while fielding questions from senators yesterday.

The new figure of 16 million, however, contradicts the 13 million out-of-school children being bandied around. However, the ministerial nominee told the senate that the 16 million figure was based on a February 2019 census.

ADAMU noted that out-of-primary-school children stood at 10 million, while children out-of-secondary-school are six million.

He blamed the high number on poor funding of education in the country by states and the federal government.

Senate President, AHMAD LAWAN, said the legislature and the executive arm of government should work together to get the children back to the classrooms.

CJN Vows To Fight Corruption In The Judiciary

the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), TANKO MUHAMMAD, has promised to fight corruption in the judiciary.

MUHAMMAD made the pledge shortly after he was sworn in as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria at the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday.

He described as unfortunate the situation where judges allowed some people to serve as links between them and people standing trial in court, saying such a scenario must stop.

The CJN stated that the judiciary would continue to support the executive arm of government in the ongoing fight against corruption by speeding up cases that have to do with the allegations of corruption.

According to Justice TANKO, it is his wish to leave the Nigerian judiciary as one of the best in the world at the end of his tenure.
