Akan Okon Resigns as Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport

Mr. Akan Okon, has resigned as the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Akwa Ibom State. In  a letter seen by our news desk, it read;

Today, Monday, 14th March, 2022, I formally tendered my resignation from the Akwa lbom State Executive Council as the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport.

It was an honour and great privilege to serve our State under the leadership of Mr. Udom Emmanuel at such an important phase in our history. I am grateful to God almighty and His Excellency, for giving me the opportunity to serve.

I also thank the good people of our dear state for their support and encouragement which motivated me in the discharge of all the tasks and assignments given to me, especially with regards to the envisioned three gateways (Land, Air and Sea) for the rapid development of our dear state and creation of job opportunities for our teeming and very enterprising youths.

Throughout the duration of my service, I strived diligently to interprete His Excellency’s vision for our State as encapsulated in the Divine Mandate Agenda and Completion Agenda respectively.

As the scripture admonishes “to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven…” Eccl. 3:It is my deep conviction that this is the best time to take a leave in other to focus on my aspiration for the 2023 Governorship election.

Once again, I thank His Excellency for the opportunity and wish our dear state the very best of growth and development.

A.O.

Mr. Akan Okon.

Police To Embark on 2 Weeks Warning Strike Over Working Conditions

Reports have emerged that Men and Women of the Nigeria Police force are set to embark on a two weeks warning strike across the country, to protest against poor working conditions. The planned two-week strike is proposed to commence on Saturday, March 26.

The officers are going on a warning strike to protest against their poor working conditions, poor salaries, lack of genuine welfare benefits and outdated weapons on the list of their grieviances also is the continuous killing of their colleagues by Criminals and terrorists, without adequate compensation for families left behind.

In a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, the aggrieved police officers accused the Federal Government of not being honest about the increment of police salary and other promised benefits.

They, however, demanded improved conditions of service, particularly salary increase and provision of modern weapons as they tackle the security challenges facing the country.

The police hierarchy is said to be working hard to avert the pending strike and quickly involved the Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi for his attention.

March 8, 2022 Governor Udom Sacks SA On Grassroots Mobilization, Enefiok Ekefre

Governor Udom Sacks SA On Grassroots Mobilization, Enefiok Ekefre

Governor Udom Emmanuel has dismissed Elder Enefiok Akpaedu Ekefre as the Honorary Special Adviser on Grassroots Mobilization.

The Termination of Elder Ekefre’s services with the Akwa Ibom State Government was terminated with effect from March 1, 2022.

A letter dated February 22,2022, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Dr. Nathaniel Adiakpan, reads in part,
“I am directed to inform you that with effect from 1st March, 2022, your services will no longer be required.”

“With this letter, your offer of appointment as Honorary Special Adviser, Grassroots Mobilization in the service of the Akwa Ibom State Government is hereby withdrawn.”

Reports from several quarters indicates that the sack is not unconnected to Elder Ekefre’s public Romance with the ambitions of Senator Bassey Albert.

It would be recalled that the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen was also fired on the same day, via widely publicised letter, from the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem.

Ephraim Inyangeyen’s sack was premised on the basis of incompetence and lack of skills set to march the momentum of development in the State in peace.
