PDP Writes INEC to Inform of Cancelled Primaries in Ebonyi Due to Guideline Violation.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) informing them of cancelled  primaries held in Ebonyi State last month.

The party stated this in a letter dated May 31, 2022, and signed by the National Chairman, Senator Iyiocha Ayu and National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.

The letter said the elections were cancelled because it violated the guidelines of the party.

It stated that a new date for the elections will be announced shortly.

The letter reads in parts : “This is to bring to your kind attention that the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has cancelled the congresses in Ebonyi State which purportedly took place on 29 May 2022 for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate”.

“The Party also cancelled the gubernatorial congress held on May 29, 2022”.

“The congresses were cancelled for violating the guidelines of the Party as
the committee that purportedly conducted them did not form the required quorum.

“The commission will be informed shortly of the new date for the congresses.”

“The Party also cancelled the gubernatorial congress held on May 29, 2022”.

“The congresses were cancelled for violating the guidelines of the Party as
the committee that purportedly conducted them did not form the required quorum.

“The commission will be informed shortly of the new date for the congresses.”

The cancellation follows the recognition of Mr Tochukwu Okorie in another letter to INEC, while the cancelled primary election was conducted by the Silas Ọnụ- led faction.

The party has been embroiled in a leadership tussle since the State Executive election last year in which Tochukwu Okorie was declared the winner.

Silas Onu however challenged the outcome in court and the Federal High Court in Abuja sacked Okorie paving the way for sworn in. Tochukwu Okorie then appealed the ruling in court and the appellate court ordered that the status quo existing before the High Court ruling be maintained effectively ousting Onu.

Silas Ọnụ despite the ruling continued to lay claim to the Chairmanship and went ahead to conduct the primaries last week.

Chukwuma Ọdịi emerged winner of the governorship primaries even as most of the aspirants boycotted or withdrew from the said election.

In the Senatorial primaries, Senator Sam Egwu and Senator Ama Nnachi were elected by the delegates for Ebonyi North and Ebonyi South zones.

A former Member representing Ezza South and Ịkwọ Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Laz Ogbee clinched the ticket for Ebonyi Central.

With the cancellation, the crisis in the party is set to continue even as time is running out for the party to elect its candidates for the 2023 elections.

Nsit Ibom Stakeholders Petition APC Over Assembly Primaries

ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) NSIT IBOM CHAPTER

Afaha Offiong
Nsit Ibom Local Government Area
Akwa Ibom State
27th May, 2022.

The State Chairman
All Progressives Congress (APC)
6, Ekpo Obot Street, Uyo
Akwa Ibom State.

Sir,
PETITION ON THE DISTORTION OF ZONING/ROTATION OF HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SEAT IN NSIT IBOM.
PREAMBLE:
Nsit Ibom Local Government Area is made up of two Court Areas, namely Asang and Mbiaso. For peace, mutual coexistence, and oneness, our forbears decided to uphold zoning and rotation of chairmanship and House of Assembly seats between the two clans or court areas since from the beginning of the present political dispensation in 1999. This rotation principle has been respected by all the leading political parties since then.
HISTORY OF ZONING AND ROTATION PRINCIPLE IN NSIT IBOM
1. 1999 – 2003 – House of Assembly – Asang
Council Chairman – Mbiaso
2. 2003 – 2007 – House of Assembly – Mbiaso
Council Chairman – Asang
3. 2007 – 2015 (8 years) – House of Assembly – Asang
Council Chairman – Mbiaso
4. 2015 – 2023 (8 years) – House of Assembly – Mbiaso
Council Chairman – Asang
HOW PARTIES FIELDED CANDIDATES FOR HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SEAT IN THE PAST EIGHT (😎 YEARS
Because of the existing zoning/rotation principle in Nsit Ibom, this is how the two leading political parties, PDP and APC fielded candidates for House of Assembly seat in Nsit Ibom in the last 8 years.
1. 2015 – 2019 – APC – Mr. Ime Inyang and PDP – Mrs. Mfon Ekong – all from Mbiaso Court Area.
2. 2019 – 2023 – APC – Mr. Imaikop Enwang and PDP – Hon. Ifiok Udoh – all from Mbiaso Court Area.
It must be noted that in the above mentioned periods, no Asang Court Area person bought nomination form and stood election in both the PDP and the APC.
HOW PARTIES SHOULD FIELD CANDIDATES FOR HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SEAT IN 2023
In view of the zoning/rotation principle which has come to stay and which parties respect, in 2023, the reverse of what happened in 2015 – 2023 should take place. This means that all the leading political parties vis-à-vis PDP and APC should field their candidates from ASANG COURT AREA. In fact, no Mbiaso person should dare even buy form and stand nomination for House of Assembly seat this time around. SO FAR, THE PDP HAS DEMONSTRATED RESPECT AND HAS HONORED THIS ZONING PRINCIPLE AND HAS PICKED HON. ERIC AKPAN FROM ASANG COURT AREA AS HER CANDIDATE. The APC as a political party with moral and ethical principles must follow suit and pick her candidate from ASANG COURT AREA.
SUGGESTION/CONCLUSION:
In view of the above, we the under listed committed stakeholders and elders of the party in Nsit Ibom recommend that you pick MR. THOMAS EFFIONG THOMAS WHO IS FROM ASANG COURT AREA TO FLY THE PARTY FLAG IN THE FORTHCOMING 2023 HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTION.
Please note that the above mentioned person has been very supportive of your leadership of the party.
Thank you.
