FRSC Direct Immediate Recall of Patrol Team For Slapping Motorist in Viral Video

The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dauda Ali Biu has directed the immediate recall of the patrol team that was captured on camera behaving in a manner, tantamount to incivility against a member of the public within Egbeda Unit Command general operational area. The provocative act as captured on camera is a complete contravention of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ standard operating procedures for officers on patrol operations.

In that regard, the Corps Marshal has directed the Corps Intelligence Office as well as the Corps Provost Office to commence with immediate effect, a full and comprehensive investigation into the entire circumstances that propelled the officer into the uncivil act and make necessary recommendations for swift administrative action.

He stated that FRSC is an ISO certified organisation that does not condone indiscipline or compromise standards when it comes to rendering service to the public. As such all necessary disciplinary actions recommended will be administered appropriately.

Police Deny Seun Kuti Administrative Bail Over Assault

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, would not be granted bail and will be taken to court for arraignment for assaulting a policeman on duty in Lagos on Saturday as captured in a video that went Viral online.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, told Journalists that the musician, who turned himself in on Monday, was handcuffed and detained, spending the night in custody.

“Seun Kuti is still in our custody; he’ll be arraigned once investigation is concluded,” Hundeyin confirmed the development to our correspondent in a telephone interview on Monday night.

Seun Kuti, the youngest son of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, submitted himself at the State Criminal Investigation Department, popularly known as Panti, in Yaba, Lagos State, on Monday morning alongside his Lawyers and members of his family.

On his Legal team were a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, alongside a lawyer from Falana and Falana Chambers, Femi Akinyemi.

The police released a video clip and pictures showing the musician in handcuffs while being paraded by police officers at the SCID, Lagos.

Trouble began on Saturday when a video of the musician assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State went viral.

In the 12-second video, Kuti, who wore a red shirt and a white pair of trousers, was seen pushing a policeman, who stood beside a Toyota Hilux police van. He then proceeded to slap the cop, as he shouted, “You dey craze, you dey mad?”

A motorist, who filmed the incident from his car, was heard saying, “Omo na Kuti o. Na better news be this o.”

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, reacting, ordered the arrest of the singer.

But Seun Kuti,  in a social media post on Saturday, alleged that the policeman in question made an attempt on his life and those of his family members.

Stallions of Nigeria Set for Paris 2024 Qualifiers

Nigeria’s senior men’s national rugby team, Black Stallions will attempt to grab a ticket for Paris 2024 Olympics thorough the qualifying series with the first game against Ghana in Mauritius.

The Black Stallions will be hoping to cause another upset by making it to the Olympics after shocking the world in 2014 by qualifying for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

They will take on Burundi which would be crucial before tackling the Democratic Republic of Congo in their last pool A match.

Nigeria began its preparation for the Olympics qualifiers in early May with the convergence of players based in the United Kingdom under the watchful eyes of Temi Okenla while newly appointed Black Stallions coach Steve Lewis has been supervising players based in Europe and the United States of America.

The bulk of the selected players is expected to go into close camping before traveling to Mauritius for the first phase of the qualifier.

Twelve countries will converge in Mauritius on June 24-25 to compete for the available four slots in the Africa Cup Sevens slated for Zimbabwe in September.

Participating countries include; Mauritius, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Botswana, Cameroun, Algeria, and Nigeria.

Others include; Burundi, Congo, Lesotho, Senegal, and Egypt
