NNPP Deny Merger with PDP

The National Secretary of New Nigeria Peoples Party, Olaposi Oginni, has described the purported coalition involving the party and six other political parties tagged “Coalition of Concerned Political Parties” as fake and untrue.

Oginni insisted that the party has not authorised any coalition with any political party, urging the public to disregard the involvement of NNPP in the purported coalition with the People’s Democratic Party and the other six parties.

He said this in a letter addressed to the Board of Trustees Chairman of PDP and made available to newsmen on Sunday evening.

The party secretary cautioned the PDP to stop dealing with people who did not represent the interests of the NNPP

He further said, “I have the collective instruction of Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, the Founder and Life Member of the Board of Trustees of the NNPP, Dr. Temitope Aluko, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the NNPP, and Engr. Abdullahi Babayo, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the NNPP and The National Chairman, Dr Agbo Gilbert Major, all of the NNPP’s National Secretariat, Winlands Plaza, Wuse Zone 4, FCT Abuja.

 

“This letter therefore serves as a formal caveat to your party (PDP) and others by notifying you that the NNPP has not, and is not authorising any coalition with your party or any other political party for that matter as is being speculated and published.

“In the circumstance, to do otherwise and proceed with the purported coalition in any matter with Sen. Kwankwaso in the name of the NNPP, will be serious hypocrisy on your part and feigning ignorance of a glaring and well-established fact that Sen. Kwankwaso is not a member of the NNPP, and he has no locus or authority to engage in any form of negotiation and/or coalition on behalf of our great party (NNPP).

“The relevant regulatory agency, security agency of the Federal Government and the general public will be notified immediately to ensure that your party and Sen. Kwankwaso do not cause any further damage to our party and to prevent any avoidable breakdown of law and order, besides needless litigations.

He urged the PDP leadership not to get entangled in the “manipulating scheme or illegal plans being sold out by some expelled members in the likes of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso under the guise of being a former Presidential Candidate of NNPP which is laughable”.

CBN Orders Disconnection of Non-Deposit Financial Institutions From Transfer List

Central Bank of Nigeria has ordered deposit Banks to disconnect Switches, Payment Solution Service Providers, and Super Agents from the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Instant Payment Outwards System.

The NIBSS disclosed this in a circular dated December 5, 2023, with Ref: NIBSS/BD/NI/PO/005/051223 to banks.

According to the national payment infrastructure company, the listing of non-deposit-taking financial institutions as beneficiaries contravenes the Central Bank of Nigeria guideline on electronic payment.

It said, “This is to bring to your attention that listing non-deposit-taking financial institutions such as Switching Companies, Payment Solution Service Providers, and Super Agents as beneficiary institutions on your NIP funds transfer channels contravenes the CBN Guidelines on Electronic Payment of Salaries, Pensions, Suppliers, and Taxes in Nigeria dated February 2014.”

 

It noted that while switches, PSSPs, and SAs may process outward transfers as inflows to banks, they “are not to receive inflows as their licences do not permit them to hold customers’ funds.”

It added, “Another regulatory advice in this regard is the circular with the caption ‘Permissible Services and Products of PSSP Operation in Nigeria’, Ref: BPD/DIR/GEN/CIR/05/004 dated May 11, 2018. Consequent on the above, kindly delist all Switches, PSSPs, and SAs from your NIP Outward Transfer channels only (not inwards).”

To operate in Nigeria’s payment ecosystem, operators must get at least one of the following licences from the CBN, Switching and Processing; Mobile Money Operations; Payment Solution Services; and Regulatory Sandbox. Only MMOs can hold customer funds, according to the CBN.

Community Led HIV Response Long Overdue – Prof Augustine Umoh

The 2023 World AIDS Day observance in Akwa Ibom has left behind resonating echoes that are expected to guide stakeholders in the state HIV response.

The Akwa Ibom State Agency for the Control of AIDS -AKSACA and its Partners had displayed interest during the weeklong commemoration from November 25 through December 1 to promote community leadership with its lineup of activities which was centred on access to communities in Uyo and the hinterlands of Ibesikpo Asutan, Uruan, Ikot Ekpene and Eket.

Most significantly the AIDS control Agency in the mix of activities it floated to mark the global event was a symposium which took place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom’s capital city.

At the symposium, perspectives of the World AIDS DAY focus were delibrated by Persons living with HIV – PLHIVs, Development Partners; USAID, ECEWS, AHF, CCCRN, MAP-IT, and other collaborators.

Speaking at the gathering, the Commissioner for Health Professor Augustine Umoh who represented the state Governor Pastor Umo Eno noted that having communities lead the response was long overdue.

On the capacity to drive community-led initiatives, the Project Manager for AKSACA, Dr Enobong Akpan said attention will be tilted to citizens taking ownership and improving the HIV prevention strategies.

The symposium had field experts in a panel discussion speak to issues that could hinder community involvement in Akwa Ibom’s HIV epidemic control while outlining solutions to be explored.

Inspiration FM’s Senior Health Correspondent IMA DEM reports that a key advocacy from Persons living with HIV, other stakeholders at the symposium was the urgent need for domestication of the Anti Stigma and Discrimination Bill in Akwa Ibom state.

Here, the Co-Chairman of the State Prevention Technical Working Group Prof Anietie Moses emphasizes embracing the bill for effective community Leadership.
