COAS Orders Soldiers to Flush Out Terrorist From Kwara

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General OLUFEMI OLUYEDE, has ordered soldiers to flush out the new terrorist group in the Kaiama and Baruten local government areas of Kwara State to guard against the spread of their activities to other regions of the country.

The army staff charged them to flush the bandits out of the two local government areas, adding that he wants the job done in the next one month.

 

OLUYEDE, who made the call while addressing the troops during his visit to Sobi barracks in Ilorin, the state capital, said the country could not afford to allow bandits spreading out to another part of the country again.

The Federal Government has announced the release of 50 billion naira to the academic and non-academic staff unions of federal universities for the settlement of earned allowances, as promised by President BOLA TINUBU

 

This was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, FOLASADE BORIOWO on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr MARUF ALAUSA.

 

ALAUSA described the move as yet another testament to TINUBU’s unwavering commitment to fundamentally transform Nigeria’s education sector.

Nigerian Weightlifters Seek Medals in Mauritius

A total of six lifters and two officials have departed the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos en-route Moka in Mauritius for the 2025 Africa Weightlifting Championship.

This is contained in a press release by the federation.

According to the statement, the contingent comprises four female and two male lifters who are poised to compete in six categories at the Africa’s Weightlifting flagship event.

The female athletes include DIDIH ONOME OMOLOLA in 55kg, LAWAL RAFIATU FOLASHADE 59kg, AYODELE RUTH IMOLEAYO 64kg and MATTHEW SARAH OVAYIOZA 76kg while the two males are; TUESDAY EMMANUEL 67kg and UMOAFIA EDIDIONG JOSEPH 73kg.

The 2025 Africa Weightlifting Championship will hold in Moka, Mauritius with the opening ceremony holding today Wednesday, April 23.

Hostilities will commence on Thursday with two Nigeria lifters, DIDIH ONOME OMOLOLA in 55kg and LAWAL RAFIATU FOLASHADE 59kg in action in the morning while Tuesday Emmanuel, featuring in 67kg and UmoafiaEdidiong Joseph in 73kg will compete from 2pm Nigeria time.

Nigeria’s participation in the championship will be rounded off on Friday with AYODELE RUTH IMOLEAYO featuring in 64kg and MATTHEW SARAH OVAYIOZA competing in the 76kg women categories.

Nigeria enters the competition on the back of an impressive outing at the 2024 edition in Egypt where the contingent won eleven medals comprising six gold and five silver medals.

Nigeria Customs Declare N1.75Trn Revenue in Q1 of 2025

The Nigeria Customs Service has announced that it recorded N1.751 trillion in revenue collection in the first quarter of 2025.

The Comptroller General of NCS, BASHIR ADENIYI disclosed this in a press briefing in Abuja yesterday.

He stated that the service surpassed its quarterly revenue projection in the period under review.

On the part of efforts on anti-smuggling activities, ADENIYI said Customs made 201 seizures worth N7.7 billion in Quarter 1 2025.
