Electricity Workers Berate FG, Warns Against Economic Hardship Over Tariff Hike

, Workers in the nation’s power sector have asked the Federal Government to stop deceiving Nigerians over the 300 percent hike in electricity tariff, and called for its reversal to avoid further socio-economic woes.

 

While advising the government to come clean on the hike and not be economical with the truth, they described the hike as nothing but another anti-people policy.

 

In a statement, the Acting General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, DOMINIC IGWEBIKE, warned that if any of their colleague is attacked in the line of duty over the tariff hike, they would shut down power supply nationwide without notice.

 

However the Federal Government has appealed to members of the National Union of Electricity Employees not to down tools over the recent electricity tariff hike.

 

In an interview, Minister of Power, ADEBAYO ADELABU, who spoke through his media aide, BOLAJI TUNJI, said the government was doing everything to improve supply in Nigeria and ensure that everybody is happy about the new development.

EFCC Declares Total Funds Recovered From Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Investigation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission- EFCC has said a combined total of N32.7bn and $445,000 has been recovered so far from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

 

The commission made this revelation while dispelling commentaries, opinions and insinuations concerning the progress of its investigations into the alleged financial misappropriation in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

 

Recall that the anti-graft agency has been investigating the suspended Humanitarian Minister, BETTA EDU, her predecessor, SADIYA UMAR-FAROUQ, and the Coordinator of the National Social Insurance Programmes Agency, HALIMA SHEHU following discrepancies discovered in the NSIP programmes

 

The EFCC said its investigation has not only been about individuals but about an entire system and what it described as an intricate web of fraudulent practices with banks also involved.

NSCDC Allegedly Shot Bystander While Chasing Hoodlums

In Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, yesterday personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) allegedly shot and killed a woman while attempting to pursue hoodlums.

 

The NSCDC personnel, reportedly opened fire indiscriminately, in their pursuit of suspected hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons, resulting in the tragic death of an innocent woman.

 

The tragic incident, which occurred while Muslim faithful gathered to observe Eid prayer, has sparked outrage and unrest among residents, leading to an escalation of tensions in the area.

 

In response to the shooting, an angry mob gathered and vented their frustration by setting ablaze an NSCDC vehicle.
