NDLEA Arrests 50,901 Drug Offenders in 3 Years

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has revealed that 50,901 drug offenders including 46 barons have been arrested in the last three years.

 

The Chairman of the Agency, Brig. Gen. BUBA MARWA (retd.), who made the revelations also said that within the period, the agency successfully prosecuted and convicted 9,034 of them as well as seized over 7,561 tonnes of illicit substances.

 

The NDLEA boss made the remarks at the commissioning and handing over ceremony of an operational facility built and donated to NDLEA by the British government.

 

MARWA said the development has sent the right message to drug cartels and their kingpins that Nigeria won’t tolerate their criminal activities and also commended the generous support that will further boost the capability of the agency in tackling the menace of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria.

Police Arrest 2 in Akwa Ibom Over Murder of Relatives

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 40 year old INYANGAKE JAMES PETER, for gruesomely murdering his 70 year old mother, MMA-OFFIONG JAMES PETER at Ikpe Annang Village in Essien Udim LGA.

 

The Suspect who confessed to the crime has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for discrete investigation.

 

Similarly, another suspect, SOLOMON ASUQUO ISAAC of Ikot Obok Nsit in Nsit Ibom LGA who murdered his 18 year-old son, IBORO ISAAC, following family misunderstanding, has been arrested.

 

According to a statement signed by outgoing Police Public Relations Officer, CSP ODIKO MACDON, cases of some family members killing their biological relations have become of great concern to the Command in recent times.

 

The statement assured that the suspects will be charged to court at the completion of investigation.

Commercial tricyclists in Akwa Ibom State have lamented the effect of multi-taxation on their business, adding that the issue is escalating economic hardship, already caused by the removal of fuel subsidy and food crisis in the state.

 

They also narrated how some of them are deprived the benefits of the tax holiday instituted by the state government through the ministry of Transport.

 

The commercial transporters in an interview with Inspiration FM also expressed worry over the uncultured attitude of the tax officers in their areas, noting that the actions of these persons have threatened their operations and peace of mind.

They spoke in their local dialects.
