Governor Umo Eno to Train Permanent Secretaries at ASCON

Governor UMO ENO, has disclosed plans to train all Permanent Secretaries through the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), stressing the need for adequate capacity building.

 

Governor ENO, who stated this at the May edition of Government House Monthly Covenant Service, held at the Banquet Hall, Uyo maintained that government will turn some of its idle assets, both within and outside the State, to profitable ventures.

 

Governor ENO also disclosed his plan to overhaul the Ibom Icon Hotel for maximum utilisation, adding that the planned recruitment of health workers in the State will follow a fair and transparent process.

 

He stated that the recruitment examination will be computer-based, in compliance with international best practices; urging interested candidates to strive to be selected on merit.

Nigeria Governors Forum Assures Labor of Improved Minimum Wage

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, has assured the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and the workers of an improved and sustainable minimum wage.

 

Despite May Day celebrations on Wednesday, the government refrained from announcing a new minimum wage, citing its reluctance to accept labour’s proposal.

 

The NGF, in a communique signed by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor, ABDULRAHMAN ABDULRAZAQ, stated that it is assessing each state government’s fiscal capacity and the potential effects of different proposals to determine an enhanced minimum wage that can be feasibly sustained by the states.

Sequel to the complaints received by the Command on an inter-confraternity clash between different cult groups ongoing in Eket and its environs, The Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara gave a matching order to the DPO Eket Division,SP Felix Ekpoudom for the perpetrators to be fished out and prosecuted. In compliance with these directives;

On 9/04/2024 at about 4:45 pm, based on credible information at disposal, Operatives of Eket Division arrested one Godwin Adam Aka Nasarawa ‘m’ 35yrs of Idong Useme Village, one Isaac Samuel Bassey ‘m’ 25yrs of Assang Usong Inyong, one Emmanuel Hanson Isong ‘m’ 29yrs of Idung Uso Village, all of Eket L.G.A. Suspects confessed to being members of Black Axe Confraternity and also suspected to be involved in the gruesome murder of one Kufre Usoro aka Promzy ‘m’ 32yrs said to be a member of Klanz Cult group who was murdered on Thursday 4th of April, 2024.

Furthermore, in pursuit of others at large, on 25/4/2024, at about 2:00 pm, the Divisional Police Officer of Eket Division, acting on intelligence gathered swiftly mobilized police operatives from the Division to Eket-Etinan Road and arrested one Victor Usoro Eyire aka Tender ‘m’ 35yrs of Iseyiridua Village, Eket L.G.A., along Eket/Etinan Road. The Suspect has been on the Command wanted list for being a ringleader terrorizing Eket/Etinan/Ekparakwa Axis. Further effort led to the recovery of One English Pump Action Rifle, one Short Machine Gun (SMG), one locally made revolver pistol, eleven rounds of 9mm Ammunitions, and four rounds live cartridges from their Group Operational Base at Ikot Oku Ikono Village, Uyo L.G.A. Suspect confessed to being a member of Black Axe Cult Group. Effort is intensified to arrest other fleeing gangs and possible recovery of their weapons.

The Command remains resolute in its determination to rid the state of criminal elements.

Senate Calls for Concerted Efforts to Sustain Naira Stability

the Nigerian Senate through its Committee on Finance has called for concerted efforts by all relevant stakeholders to rescue and sustain the stability of the naira.

 

The naira persisted in its decline against the US dollar within the official exchange framework, concluding at 1,309.88 naira on Thursday, April 25.

 

However, the naira, last week, recovered against the US dollar at the parallel market but began to depreciate again.

 

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator SANI MUSA (APC, Niger East), said there was an urgent need for concerted efforts at tackling the instability and continuous depreciation of the naira.
