President Tinubu Felicitates Nigerians at Eid Celebrations

 President BOLA TINUBU has called on Nigerians to show more care for their neighbours and extend charity to all in the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir.

 

Speaking with journalists after Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Lagos, the President said some level of sacrifice will be required to move the nation forward.

 

In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh SULEIMAN ABOU-NOLLA, who led the prayers, reiterated the need for more love, sacrifice and care for the poor and the vulnerable.

 

The Chief Imam urged citizens to pray that God Almighty grant the President the strength and wisdom to deliver on his vision for a better and prosperous nation.

Presidency Tackles New York Times on “Worst Economic Crisis of a Generation” Piece

The Presidency has tackled the New York Times over its report on the current economic situation in Nigeria, saying that President BOLA TINUBU on May 29, 2023, inherited a dead economy.

 

The Presidency also justified some of the policy decisions taken by the TINUBU’s administration like floating of the naira and fuel subsidy removal, declaring that the policies were taken in the best interest of the country.

 

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, BAYO ONANUGA, on Sunday reacted to the report credited to RUTH MACLEAN and ISMAIL AUWAL.

 

According to the Presidency, the feature story with the title, ‘Nigeria Confronts Its Worst Economic Crisis in a Generation’, published on June 11, reflected the typical predetermined, reductionist, derogatory and demeaning way foreign media establishments have reported African countries for several decades.

 

BAYO ONANUGA said because of the ‘misleading’ slant of the report, the government needed to clear up some misconceptions conveyed by the reporters.

Local Government Autonomy: Supreme Court Reserves Judgement in Case Between FG and State Governors

The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in the suit of the Federal Government against the 36 state governors seeking full autonomy for the 774 local governments in the country.

 

Justice GARBA LAWAL told the parties in the matter, today that they would be communicated once the judgment is ready.

 

He announced the reservation of the judgment after a 7-man panel of the apex court had taken adoption of processes filed by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), LATEEF FAGBEMI, on behalf of the Federal Government and those of the 36 state governors.

 

During proceedings, the AGF asked the court to grant all the reliefs sought by the Federal Government in the suit.

Elder statesman, EDWIN CLARK has written to President BOLA TINUBU, demanding the implementation of the 2014 national conference report.

 

CLARK, in the letter dated 13th June and made available to newsmen, also urged the President to carry out an immediate restructuring of Nigeria if the nation must remain one.

 

The elder statesman also weighed in on the travails of the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), NNAMDI KANU, calling the President to apply political solution to KANU the way the Federal Government withdrew the three-count terrorism charge against the detained President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, BELLO BODEJO.
