President Bola Tinubu Gives Marching Order to the Military Concerning Crude Oil Theft

President BOLA TINUBU has given a marching order to the Chief of Defence Staff – CDS, General CHRISTOPHER MUSA to curb crude oil theft and vandalism in the Niger Delta region of the country in the shortest possible time.

 The President said the directive became necessary as oil theft had become a national issue that needed to be surmounted to boost oil production and revenue generation in the country.

 The Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr MELE KYARI made this known in an interview with journalists at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, after a meeting of all security and intelligence agency heads convened by the Chief of Defence Staff.

Also speaking, the Chief of Defence Staff General CHRISTOPHER MUSA, vowed to eliminate all acts of vandalism and other criminal activities throughout the South-South region.

They expressed President TINUBU’s  believes that achieving the desired economic stability would be impossible without curbing oil theft and other crimes in the Niger Delta region.

Federal Government, States and Local Governments Share N1.3Trn from FAAC

the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has shared a total of 1.354 trillionnaira to the three tiers of government.

A communiqué at the end of its meeting in Abuja indicated that the funds came from the Federation revenue earned in June.

The distributable revenue comprised statutory revenue of 142.5 billion naira, distributable Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue of 523.973 billion naira, Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) revenue of 15.692 billion naira, Exchange Difference revenue of 472.192 billion naira and Augmentation of 200.000 billion naira.

Total revenue of 2.483 trillion naira was available in the month of June 2024. Total deduction for cost of collection was 92.112 billion naira while total transfers, interventions and refunds was to 1,037.407 billion naira.

Gross statutory revenue of 1.432 trillion naira was received for the month of June 2024. This was higher than the sum of 1.223 trillion naira received in month of May 2024 by 208.773 billion naira.

Umo Eno Welcomes Financial Autonomy for LGAs, States Concerns Over Effective Implementation

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO, has described the recent Supreme Court ruling granting financial autonomy to local governments as a welcome development and relief to state governments.

He however expressed concerns over its effective implementation and the ability of Local governments to handle their financial responsibilities.

Governor ENO made the observations while fielding questions with newsmen at Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, upon his return to the state from an official engagement.

The Governor noted that the Supreme Court’s verdict onthe matter remains sacrosanct, being the pronouncement of the final court in the land.

He noted that the judgment will not impact the Akwa Ibom State Government in anyway, stressing that so far, under his administration and even in previous years,  local governments have been getting their due allocations, without any interference with the operations of the joint account.

Federal Government Distributes 20 Trucks of Rice to State Governors

The Federal Government has distributed 20 trucks of rice each to the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, MOHAMMED IDRIS, disclosed this after Monday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The minister said this is the first step as the government takes strides to address the issue of food shortage in the country and appealed to the governors to ensure the effective distribution of the grains to the most vulnerable in the society.
