Senator Ali Ndume Removed as Chief Whip in the 10th Senate

The National Working Committee – NWC of the All Progressives Congress – APC has written the President of the Senate, GODSWILL AKPABIO to ask the Chief Whip, Senator ALI NDUME to resign from the party and join either the Peoples Democratic Party – PDP or any of the opposition party.

APC, in the letter, also removed Senator ALI NDUME (APC, Borno South) as Chief Whip of the 10th Senate and replaced him with Senator MOHAMMED TAHIR MONGUNO (APC, Borno North).

In the letter, signed by APC National Chairman, Alhaji UMAR GANDUJE and the National Secretary, Senator SUŔAJUEEN BASIRU, the party said that NDUME’s complaints about President BOLA TINUBU are unbecoming and his utterances are not favourable to the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, after the letter was read by AKPABIO, he put to voice vote for MONGUNO to be admitted as the Chief Whip of the Senate.

The letter was referring to NDUME’s media interview where he alleged that President BOLA TINUBU is working with thieves and has also been caged, such that he didn’t know Nigerians are hungry.

France’s President Accepts Prime Minister’s Resignation

France’s President, EMMANUEL MACRON has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister GABRIEL ATTAL’s government, which will now serve only in a caretaker capacity.

French politics have been in gridlock since an inconclusive snap election earlier this month, with parties in the National Assembly scrambling to put together a governing coalition and no successor to ATTAL in sight.

The outgoing premier and his team would handle day-to-day business until a new government is named.

MACRON had announced the plan earlier in the day at the government’s first cabinet meeting since his allies got roundly beaten earlier this month in a snap parliamentary election he had called to clarify the political landscape.

Macron told the ministers he would ask Attal to stay on for some weeks, probably until after the Paris Olympics, which open on July 26.

This gives political parties more time to build a governing coalition after the July 7 election runoff left the lower house without an overall majority.

NCDC Raises Alarm Over Increase in Yellow Fever Cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a warning about the increasing number of yellow fever cases in the country, coinciding with the ongoing cholera outbreak that has affected nearly all states.

The Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. JIDE IDRIS issued the warning at a press conference in Abuja.

IDRIS said that since June, the NCDC has been actively managing a cholera outbreak that has spread across 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory, impacting 187 Local Government Areas.

IDRIS noted that the agency had also observed a troubling rise in yellow fever cases, particularly with the onset of the rainy season, noting that heavy rainfall and flooding significantly impact the spread of waterborne diseases like cholera and yellow fever.
