Nigerian Bar Association Admits Receiving N 300m From Rivers State

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) yesterday admitted collecting 300 naira million from the Rivers State Government while planning its 2025 Annual General Conference (AGC) initially billed for Port Harcourt.

This followed the demand by Rivers State Sole Administrator IBOK-ETE IBAS that the money, approved by suspended Governor SIMINIALAYI FUBARA, be refunded.

However, the NBA said the cash was an unconditional gift, not payment to facilitate the conference.

The government in a statement by HECTOR IGBIKIOWUBO, the media aide to Vice Admiral IBAS faulted the reasons given by the NBA for the relocation of its conference after receiving the money.

President Bola Tinubu Gives Plateau State Governor Marching Order to Tackle Insecurity

President BOLA TINUBU has given marching orders to Plateau State governor, CALEB MUTFWANG, to summon the necessary political will to resolve the crisis in the state and establish enduring peace.

Also yesterday, Governor HYACINTH ALIA of Benue State warned that he cannot guarantee the safety of any person or group coming to the state without his knowledge.

The President’s order came as a family of eight was wiped out after no fewer than 52 persons were confirmed killed and property razed in a fresh Sunday night attack on Zike hamlet in Kimakpa community at Kwall district, Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

This came as troops of the Nigerian army rescued 16 victims earlier kidnapped in the area. Giving the order yesterday, the President also expressed profound sorrow over recent bloodshed in the state.

A statement by presidential spokesman, BAYO ONANUGA, stated that President TINUBU, who strongly condemned the violence, extended his sympathies to the governor, the state government and the people of Plateau State.

In his call for harmony among the people of Plateau State, the President emphasised the importance of love and unity beyond religious and ethnic lines.

Residents of Uyo React to Threat by Generating Companies to Shut Down Power Over Debt

Residents of Uyo have expressed deep concern following the recent threats by electricity generation companies (Gencos) to shut down operations due to the Federal Government’s outstanding debt exceeding four trillion naira.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the GenCos, Rtd. COLONEL SANI BELLO, had made threats known to journalists in Abuja, lamenting that the mounting liabilities were crippling their ability to operate and threatening a total shutdown of electricity generation in Nigeria.

Speaking with INSPIRATION FM News, the Residents said they are hopeful that resolution will be reached to avert the power crisis and ensure the continued supply of electricity to the country.

GenCoshad noted that the 2025 national budget’s 900 billion naira allocation for the power sector is grossly inadequate to address those arrears and sustain future payments. The GenCos also highlight the sharp decline in collection rates— below 30 percent in 2024— which they say has worsened the liquidity crisis.
