September 21, 2024 INEC Extends Voting Time in Edo Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended voting time in areas where the process commenced late.

A statement by National Commissioner & Member, Information and Voter Education Committee, MOHAMMED HARUNA on Saturday, said its monitoring had indicated that although there were early commencement of polls in many polling units, there were reports of late commencement in some locations.

MOHAMMED HARUNA said the attention of the commission’s office in Edo State has been drawn to ensure that, where necessary, there is adequate power supply from backup electric generators in the affected Polling Units or Ward Collation Centres to ensure a successful exercise.

The governorship candidates of the three main political parties were seen responding to questions by newsmen at their polling units, after they had cast their votes.

One of them, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State, ASUE IGHODALO who applauded the voting process, however noted that he was not happy with the delay in delivering of electoral materials for the election.

He also raised concerns over what he described as acts of intimidation, by some men who are going around polling units to arrest voters.
