Traders in Etuk Udua Ifa at Ifa Atai Ikot Akpan in Uyo local government area have decried the ruthless demolition of the market yesterday by Akwa Ibom state government.

 According to an eye witness, the government officials, in company of police officers, stormed the market in the morning and demolished it while enforcing violence on any form of resistance by stall owners and community people.

 The demolition caused a faceoff between youths of the community and the police officers, which left some people injured.

 Market women and some indigenes who spoke exclusively to inspiration FM revealed that no prior information was given for evacuation before the demolition, leaving them completely clueless as to the reason for the demolition.

A community leader who pleaded anonymity disclosed that stall owners have been in tears since the destruction, as their main source of livelihood have been taken away in such brute manner.
