The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recovered a locally made pistol and apprehended an 18-year-old suspect in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP TIMFON JOHN, the arrest followed a credible intelligence report.
The statement said operatives of the Command arrested one AMANAM BASSEY ABRAHAM, a male resident of Akpautong Village, who was allegedly in possession of an illegal firearm.
A search conducted at the point of arrest led to the recovery of a locally made pistol. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect claimed that the firearm was given to him by his landlord—whose identity is yet to be determined—as collateral for a loan of five thousand naira.
He also stated that he intended to hand over the pistol to his father for safekeeping.
DSP TIMFON JOHN further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the said landlord for questioning.
