According to a Press Statement issued by the State Chairman of NLC, Comrade SUNNY JAMES, the strike suspension follows the successful negotiation and the subsequent signing of the New Minimum Wage Agreement between the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Organized Labour yesterday.
The Statement noted that the signed 80, 000 naira minimum wage agreement is effective from November 1, 2024 and that since Salaries had already been paid for November 2024, the differential arrears will be paid on or before the end of February 2025, while the December 2024 Salary will be paid on the basis of the agreed New Minimum Wage.
Comrade SUNNY JAMES further noted that the Committee on minimum wage has alsoagreed to increase the Pension of Retirees in the State by 32,000 naira per month, in line with the Circular of the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, issued in September 27, 2024.
The organized Labour therefore appreciated the Fatherly commitment and Love of Governor UMO ENO for His timely conclusion of the minimum Wage Agreement and other welfare packages to the Workers of the State, hoping that workers will reciprocate the kind gesture by improving on their productivity and acceptable service delivery to the State.
