The Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress – NLC has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike from Wednesday, December 4, 2024 if the new Minimum Wage agreement that will state the effective date of the implementation is not signed by midnight of Tuesday.
The decision formed the resolutions reached during an emergency State Executive Council Meeting of NLC held yesterday in Uyo.
As contained in a Communiqué signed by the state Chairman of NLC – Comrade SUNNY JAMES, the workers urged Governor UMO ENO to direct the signing of the agreement, while the workers verification exercise is ongoing.
NLC explained that they are extending the action, which was scheduled to commence on Sunday, December 1, by three days because of the burial of the first lady.
The Labour Union noted that workers will also be directed to come out en mass to the Government House gate at wellington Bassey way Uyo, on Monday, December 9, to massively protest for their new minimum wage payment.
