In a historic political realignment that has sent shockwaves across Akwa Ibom State, Governor UMO ENO and other key stakeholders have officially announced their resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party – PDP to join the ruling All Progressives Congress – APC.
Governor ENO who was elected under the PDP in 2023, made the announcement yesterday at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, emphasizing that although he has switched political allegiance, his commitment to good governance and the delivery of democratic dividends remains unwavering.
In a coordinated move, several members of the State Executive Council, through the Secretary to the State Government, Prince ENOBONG UWAH; members of the State House of Assembly, through the Speaker, Rt. Hon. UDEME OTONG; and members of the PDP National Assembly Akwa Ibom Caucus, led by Senator EKONG SAMPSON, also announced their defection to the APC.
Receiving the governor, the APC State Chairman, STEPHEN NTUKEKPO, hailed the development as a validation of vision, unity, and purpose.
Also speaking at the event, the President of the Senate, Senator GODSWILL AKPABIO, represented by his wife, Mrs. UNOMA AKPABIO, warmly welcomed Governor ENO to the party, while the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, HOPE UZODIMMA, described the development as a major political milestone.
With Governor UMO ENO’s defection, the PDP now controls only 10 states in the country: Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Enugu, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, Zamfara, and Rivers—whose governor, SIM FUBARA, is currently serving a six-month suspension.
